We don't verify innocence, we prove guilt. Innocence doesn't need to be verified, because we're all innocent until proven guilty.

The BBC situation traduces that principle.
Not really. If you have a TV in your house it will be capable of receiving live transmissions. If you assert that it does not, it seems reasonable to prove such. If you point a gun at my head I won't take your word for it that it's not loaded, and therefore not being used for its primary purpose.
There's nothing primary about consuming live broadcast on a TV these days and asking people to prove a negative is problematic at best.

Perhaps we should send people into your home to check you aren't using knives to cut people.

I think you’re hitting on something prevalent in several threads.

There was something I read the other day that talked about how one bloke with vile views in a pub might pipe up about something awful but the rest of the (normal, civilised) pub would be revulsed and vile bloke would pipe down.

Vile view bloke can find lots of mates on line however and I think that has happened on PH and wider and is a factor in climate denial, brexit, the misogyny, bbc bashing, loving cummings awful advisors, loving nigel, thinking the AfD are OK. This list is long.

The way they round on people challenging the new found confidence in their dodgy views is notable.

Let's add the license fee to a full Sky TV compulsory package.
I was thinking a quid on top of Netflix wouldn't even cover Linkeker's wages but call it 10% tax on any subscription service and we're sorted. While that further emphasises the fact that you have to pay for the BBC whether or not you watch it, it is after all a state broadcaster and will be funded by the public in some form.

So you are saying climate denial, Brexit, BBC bashing are vile views? Have I got that right?

That is actually a really good idea.

Since they failed to get Labour elected and their Remain campaign failed they now have another primary "5 year plan"

Comedy and arts in general tend to be more left than right wing tbh, it’s not just the BBC driving it. IMHO obviously.
Surely then the BBC should be promoting right wing comedy and arts?

Isnt that why the BBC is funded the way it is, to allow it to produce non commercially viable output.

Also dont most comics get their "big break" on the BBC?

I don't understand - do some of you trawl the BBC website looking for things to be outraged by? If you don't like their message, don't read the content.

Well done for demonstrating the point wonderfully.

Have you all nailed your colours to the mast on the Sabinsky thread yet?

In terms of vile views, I’m sure you can join the dots between TBP, Farage and AfD etc. - plenty on record on the thread defending exactly those things.

They don't have any powers of entry, do they?

IME (I've been visited twice) they're no hassle at all. They ask, you tell them you don't need a licence, they leave. But then I don't come over all FMOTL "I know my rights"...
This is such an odd attitude in this country. I know my place, programmed to be serfs. Why do you constantly have to prove you are innocent.

why even come once but you already told them once and you are happy for them to come again? No letters either?

No hassle for you but an old confused person, will be easily coerced oh you have a tv sign here.

Prove you have no fishing rods

Ridiculous.

Why does he have to? Why does he need to like what you like. I know the answer to that be honest you don’t care what he likes you just want him to pay for what you like.

Of that list the only thing I’ve watched is Sherloc and I haven’t seen them all. Which was probably made by some other company and only commissioned by the BBC anyway.
