In all fairness Derek, it's his house and he can park whatever and wherever he damn well pleases.

The supplier / servant to employer relationship is a hard one, especially when operating within somebody else’s home.
Of course. Could agree more, especially as it isn't his. He's just the consort. So why, when he decides to do it his way and it all falls apart, was it me whom he blamed?

I was involved with quite a few royalty posts and I found that most members of the family were considerate, helpful and gave the impression of taking an interest in those beneath them. I have the greatest respect for the Queen, a very impressive woman, the Princess Ann and even the Queen Mum.

Cock it up and one would expect them to be irritated but when things go a bit wrong and look bad because they didn't follow the agreed procedure, there for their safety and convenience, then throwing a strop and possibly damaging and innocent person then I have to say, my respect is strained.

I also worked with officers who'd had considerably more experience of him than me. There was not many who had a good word. He has no particular obligation to be considerate but then, nor does the Queen but more so.

I would not wish him ill but neither would I beatify him just because he says things which many others wouldn't. Beyond his mouth there doesn't seem to me to be much substance to the eulogies on here.

The bbc just mentioned that we owe him a greater debt than we can ever calculate.

Sorry, but i have to take issue with that. He's a professional hand shaker thats been fking some woman from romsey for the last few years.

Allegedly.
He served with distinction in World War II, that fact alone makes you an idiot.
Didn't know that, i'll give you that one.
Perhaps a little research before an ill-informed insulting response next time?
Think i was pretty fair in conceding tbh.

Not the nicest royal to work for though. Quite an objectionalbe bloke when he wanted to be. He is, after all, only the person he married.

He could be deliberately uncooperative and then, when things went wrong, he was the first to complain. He, via his prot officer, put in a complaint against me that was entirely his fault. My inspector - I was a sergeant - had been complained about himself via Mr Queen as he was known and told me what to do to get off the hook, the one I didn't even know I was on at the time. All I got was advice.

he was the only royal who took his domotion when Di came along badly.

He was always grumpy when he had to use the state roller without his missus. She chould have it without number plates but he couldn't. it used to wind him up.

The Queen was the most impressive royal. She took interest in everyone around her, police, public and officials.

I don't wish Mr Queeen any ill will but I'm glad I don't have to put up with his tantrums.
You do seem to have had a very varied Police career. A story for every occassion. Never seen anything like it in my time in the Police. The only people I know who get shuffled into a new post every couple of years are those that are ste at their job.

Being mentioned in despatches isn't a matter of embellishment and there's more besides.

Indeed. Even the most staunch republicans will miss him when we are all bowing to our Chinese overlords. biggrin

Even PC Jackanory will tell exhilerating and facinating tales to his great grand children, Ho, Ping and Chang of the Royal Bubble. wink

I have indeed had a very varied career. Nice of you to notice. I've never been one of those who gets stuck in a speciality and then stays there, frightened to move elsewhere.

I followed advice, near enough. I tried to not stay more than two years in any one post - twice they refused to let me go. I'm glad I had the sense to follow it. The chap who told me said that most people could crack the basics of any post in six months. They then spend the next year getting better. For the next six months they do their best work but at a canter and from then on all they do is make excuses for not moving on.

I've worked in four police areas as well, the Mets, Kent, City of London and Sussex. I was a PC for six years, then a sergeant for four, then a PC for two, then a sergeant for four then an inspector for the balance of my career. So I think you are right, at least in one aspect: my career was very varied. I'm ever so pleased it was. It made the job very fulfilling, challenging and interesting.

I've only once been pushed and that was more or less mutual in any case. I fell out with a dishonest chief superintendent. That did not make me unique. It was a group I am proud to be included in.

It's not that often I make brilliant decisions but I have to say that moving on every couple of years was pretty good. The advice came from my probationary inspector, a lovely chap who was later arrested, charged and imprisoned for burglary of Austin Reeds in Fenchurch Street.

I haven't been there and done it all by any means, but I've done a lot and in a lot of places. It was great. If I did it all again I'd make the same decision.

Oh please go do some homework before posting BS, his wartime record is well documented and was PRIOR to him joining the royal family, time to give the Bacofoil hat a rest.
If it happened AFTER his marriage you might have a point but it didnt so you dont!
You make a good case. Oh wait a minute, you have no irrefutable evidence at all so you have no case

Hey, makes no odds to me, you worship the guy if you like. I'm not aware of anything he's done that has made a positive difference to me and really don't care much whether he lives much longer or not but there is very evidently a not very nice side to the man. Not that he's alone in that family.

'Phil The Bubble' ...Very good!

Joking apart, Phil really could have been a PH'r with that username, here he is with the special Triplex GTS - Glazing Test Special - (Scimitar)

He bought and owned the GTS after outing bids from the Earl of Snowdon and Princess Margaret and others.

The ROC (Reliant Owners Club) didn't miss the opportunity and 'offered' the Duke 'honorary membership'
which he accepted - he is said to have fixed the ROC badge to the car too.
He was a member for years, probably still is!

I've met him to talk to twice, once when he visited my regiment when I was in the army & once when he visited my squadron when I was in the RAF. On the second occasion it was a very hot day & I wasn't expecting him to walk out to the flight-line to come to see us erks, so instead of wearing my uniform under my coveralls I was wearing shorts & a printed t-shirt, coveralls tied round my waist. I became aware of somebody standing behind me so turned around to be greeted by Phil the Greek (as we called him) reading my t-shirt which had the words, "Instant ar*sehole - just add alcohol" printed on it. Oops.
He laughed at it & then ignored it & asked me some very well informed question about the aircraft, and later I found out that he'd specifically told the powers that be not to fizz me for being out of uniform as it had made his day. For that alone I think he's a good bloke, but in the conversation we had he also came across as a very humorous and down to earth person.
Get well soon Phil the Greek.

1 hour long including plenty of interviews and background not that widely known.

Best of luck with the recovery Philip, and merry Christmas all. biggrin
