Well....you think the UK public servants are a tad wasteful?........not compared to here...snowploughs running through the dry streets of Montreal....not a snowflake in sight. The vid is revelatory:

Did you actually LOOK at the picture of the plough GRITTING the side-walk in line with
the forecast conditions for the area at the time as pointed out in the comments
below the article.

The writer of the article is a berk and you well..

ETA you often see Gritters in this area with plough's mounted on the front
but we don't get idiot jurnos trying to make a non story out of ploughing
fresh air.

Most of the gritting trucks we have in the UK are able to be fitted with ploughs, they usually leave them off down south as snow is rare. Seems sensible to leave them on all the time if it snows regularly.

Up here in Scotland, the gritting trucks are mostly fitted with ploughs that can be lowered if need be. If a cold night is forecast they go around gritting, but if it snows, they have the appropriate tools fitted. Lorries gritting, but 'air-ploughing' is quite a common sight up here. Common, but comforting.

Nope. Watched the video twice and I still cannot see grit coming out of the first little snow plow. Also, why drag the blade along the floor when there is no snow?

Or a use it or lose attitude re the 2011 snow clearing budget.

I wonder how many door mirrors the guy collected, that appeared a tad tight when doing the pedestrian walkway.

This is an old story, but I am sure it was done locally last summer. I am sure it would have been an amusing sight!

Must've been a different 21st December that I spent there as it was snowing on and off sporadically and those machines actually grit the pavement.

(I live in Montreal).
