That seems to be whataboutism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigurdur_Thordarson

The article states that he authorised a Russian Israel Shamir to act for him not Thordarson.

Huff Post said:
“I, Julian Assange, hereby grant full authority to my friend, Israel Shamir, to both drop off and collect my passport, in order to get a visa,” said the letter, which was obtained exclusively by The Associated Press.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel_Shamir

This article shows Assanger & Thordarson photographed together, so we can dismiss his claims as his usual lies.

Even if he exchanges his passport for a Russian one, I presume he still can't go anywhere?

Leaving the embassy will result in an arrest, irrespective of the passport he has.

He is, but that information is hardly new, he was nailed by Leveson.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/leveson-in...

and his fake story on Foot has been all over the news for days

The reason I posted it was because it establishes his links to the Russians far earlier than previously thought.

Yep, I get that.

You are right, it is quite weighty evidence.

That is a staggeringly disappointing plan.

Essentially they planned to 'give him some diplomatic documents' then 'pick him up from the embassy in a diplomatic car' and hope he would be just allowed to pass freely as a diplomat?

But surprise surprise, the British government saw right through that incredibly cunning plan and simply refused to agree he was a diplomat.

I am less than impressed.

I was hoping it would involve the dead of night, tunnels, a distraction, or smuggling him out hidden inside a 'broken vending machine' collected by workman or something.

With his money and contacts, and possibly help from Russia, I cannot understand why he hasn't been smuggled out of there yet?

How hard can it be to hide him inside a hollowed out photocopier and simply have him wheeled out of the building by a couple of workmen and into the back of a Luton van branded as some local 'office technology' supply company.

Under the watching eyes of the Met police, they could be seen unwrapping a brand new photocopier out of the back of the van, wheeling it in, and wheeling out the 'old one' with Assange in it.

They could then drive him to a private airfield or small fishing port, and fly/float him out of the country to pretty much wherever he wants.

Do I have to think of everything around here??

I guess when you really are in that sort of a bind, it's diffract to know who to trust, so as AR says, when there's no play to make, make no play.

I have just passing interest in all of this, but how long has he been at the embassy? Without actually being able to go for a walk, it must feel like a prison. I'd imagine that embassy staff are getting pretty pissed too that he's still there.

It’s a problem of his own making.

He’s free to go for a walk at any time but then if he does, he’ll have to face the consequences of his actions.

He keeps playing the imprisoned without trial card on twitter and it gains little traction and often a lot of ridicule.

Wow.

6 years? With no end in sight?

You could almost feel sorry for him.

Almost.

As for the embassy, can't they just say; 'Dude, enough already, we tried to help you out a bit, but with all due respect, GTFO'.
