Oh yes, it's your favourite soar-away travelling caravanners who are the 'victims' again!

Seems reasonable to me. This is a retail car park not a campsite.

Good.

Although maybe if the car park was full of Gypsies the missus wouldn't want to go as often and be "that" stupid couple with Bob the bookcase or Steve the seat that clearly doesn't fit in the car.

Perhaps IKEA should have installed physical barriers preventing actual caravans from entering the car park, instead of relying on a security guard (who may be prone to PR gaffes)?

It's definitely worthwhile trying to keep travellers out, as once they're in they're very familiar with the law and can be relatively litigious.

But who controls the physical barriers?

It's nothing to do with race and everything to do with lifestyle. Allowing those factors to become entangled has made stopping individuals with antisocial lifestyles (irrespective of race) imposing themselves on others a legal minefield.

Couldn't we fence them into an Ikea car park? Two birds with one stone.

It sounds as if the security guard wasnt quite as PC about it as prehaps he should have been, although I think most people here would agree that gypsies are massive pain and should not be allowed to set up camp wherever they feel like.

Seems like a bit of a pointless debate really, It had nothing to do with race they just dont want people coming and camping in the car park. Maybe a height barrier would be a better choice?

By physical barrier, I mean one of those metal outline frames that sets the maximum size with which a vehicle will fit through, not up/down barriers controlling all access.

Good point! What about a guard tower with snipers?

I'm a bleeding heart lefty, but if I was in charge of Ikea

Firstly I'd change the lay-out of the showrooms so people can actualy walk in, choose what they want and walk out without being made to feel like a rat in a trap.

But secondly if I was faced with the issue of travellers setting up camp in my carparks, I'd refuse them entry in the first place. It's not a race issue, it's a lifestyle choice. If I decided paying rent / mortgage / tax / wasn't really my bag and pitched a tent up in the carpark of Tesco I'd expect to be moved on, if I returned, I'd expect someone to stop my entry.

(shouldn't there be that Jackie Chan looking meme about here)
They have screwed me over and stole far more of my life then their "meatballs" could ever make up for. It is now the only shop that my wife knows not to bother asking if I will take her there......ever.
