It's got far too top heavy as regards officialdom and sponsors.
AFAIK most people do not give a flying one who sponsors the events and how much was spunked on the opening spazzmataz - the real fans want to see the athletes competing. Almost everything else is a (very expensive) sideshow.

I rather think that all the junkets, summit meetings, EU leaders hugely expensive waste of time away trips, EU Finance Ministers waste of money conferences and G4 Summits etc etc have already served their purpose.
The electorate and taxpayers now fully understand that the self serving narcissistic, politicians are simply indulging their fantasy's at our expense and to no good purpose at all. A great deal of cost and no benefit whatsoever, except to those enjoying the privileges of office.
Sadly I think that the Olympics has become just another venue on this circuit of self indulgence, with photo opportunities and the chances to look good by the score, far too attractive for politicians to ignore. Which has ruined the whole business which should be about the athletes, and their personal glory, but has been hijacked into political opportunities.
I hope the wheels come off the whole mad edifice, that political opportunism and greed have subverted, a once glorious event into becoming, over the years. We need less of this nonsense not more. We cannot actually afford it.
