I have no doubts that this specimen has a lot of filth on others, whether one or two, or more, it is a domino effect, each one fearful of some sordid disclosure, whether financial or other. There can be no other rational explanation in my mind for his continuing 'rehabilitation'. My reasoning being that there is no benefit to his continued existence in the political scene for Labour. Even if he has skills, what exactly are his virtues?

I'm getting the feeling that there is a card being played here.

this suggests to me many senior parliamentarians are fearful of what he knows.

Like I said, you can 'do' whatever you like. People shrug and say 'well that's their life, let them get on with it'.

Watch a bit and you've had it.

There is something of the 'odd' in the relative treatment of the two cases.

Vaz: did it on film, the world has seen it was him with no doubt or mitigation, entirely of his own volition. Part of what he did was illegal, to me at least -disgusting. Carries on in his job and gets on even more committees. Whatever the alleged medical reason for the withdrawal of investigations, he gets off free.

Green: if he did it, (downloaded, cannot be proven, could even have been hacked), not illegal but, to me at least - disgusting. Mrs. May had to fire him as a minister, effectively ending his career for lying In the same way every other minister has lied in the past.
No mention of the fact that the initial police search of his office and computer was illegal and the release of confidential information, gleaned as a result of the search, was also a criminal offence.

I know which carries the greatest risk to security of state. I'm also pretty sure Quick and the other investigating officer (Lewis?) will get off free. Why is there no shame anymore.

Mandelson showed how you can be a total snake yet reach the highest reaches of politics and global affairs. As has been mentioned, you just need to know where the bodies are buried.

For there to be so many of these parasites in exalted positions there must be an awful lot of bodies somewhere, with a lot still walking. Seems to be a requirement to do whatever you have to do to get to the state where you don't need to be elected any more then 'sodd it, they can't touch me now'. Sickeningly cynical. People don't even throw eggs any more.

I'm pretty sure all the searches were perfectly legal. All done with warrants and one with consent IIRC.

Green has lied which was his downfall regardless of what he has lied about.

What Vaz has done doesn't influence the PM's decisions regarding her own Cabinet.

The search: Very curious about this. Everything I read about the initial search of his office, and TV coverage, included pointed unambiguous references to the lack of a warrant and the failure to secure release from parliamentary privilege which covers the Estate.

The lie: I did mention that as being the reason for his sacking.

Vaz: Of course it doesn't influence the PM in any meaningful way. I was referring to his ' honourable friends' and colleagues who seem keen to protect him. So far as I am aware the PM is neither.

If only Jeremy took the same 'hard' line as Mrs May.

Maybe Jared and Keith would be gone by now, leaving space for those who actually want to help others.

100% this. If humans can't be trusted in high positions, as seems to be the case, then maybe we should be looking at replacing them with non-humans.

BBC headline says investigation 'suspended', main copy says 'halted', neither of these say 'ended' so hopefully it can restart once Vaz's doctor has signed him off. Which obviously he will at some point, probably. Or not.

From IPSA procedural guidelines

'The Compliance Officer should have discretion over the grounds to suspend an investigation or, at the very least, the Procedures should enable him to suspend or close an investigation on medical grounds'

Nothing says 'Close'. It looks like it is suspended. They wouldn't want Vaz keeling over, would they

I can't see what 'medical grounds' would affect him in this inquiry. He needn't be examined, his behaviour is in the public domain and he needn't be questioned again. That's a mighty big blanket being thrown over which does not help credibility.

I don't think it's any more complicated than it was a search by consent from Serjeant At Arms who then complained about basically not knowing her own job.
