To be fair to the bloke, he's no socialist and has never to my recollection spouted ideals unique to socialism. Has he ever claimed to be a socialist? He comes from a very left wing background but then it is not compulsor to follow the beleifs of one's father.

If he was the current leader of the labour party rather than little bro' then I think their percentage lead in the polls would be even bigger than it is now.

No Blairite is a socialist.

Waiting in the background for the big day to be released to the public. I should say about 6-9 months before the General Election.
I still think its a ploy by the Labour lot to keep him as their 'special weapon'.

Ed? rofl he is only there to keep the seat warm.

Errmmmm - he is elected by his constituents and paid by the tax-payer to represent the people of South Shields.

Granted, this issue crosses all political boundaries (but Labour's Brown is by far the most guilty of this crime!).

Either he's an MP full Time, which we pay him for, or he isn't and should be sacked.

David Milliband isn't a Blairite and is a socialist:

What has he done to justify that sort of money, taken them into the premier league and if not does this club have stupid debt levels? I really think there needs to be a maximum wage for these career bureaucrats, something like twice the minimum wage.

Why pick on Poor old Gordon?

A quick scan of the register of member's interests shows that he has been hard at work, sorting out the issues affecting his constituents in those well known parts of Kirkcaldy & Cowdenbeath known as New York, Miami, Singapore and Lagos....

Milliband joined SAFC's board a long time after they reached the Premier League, so it's not that.
They're also a financially sound club, backed by Texan oil billionaire, Ellis Short.

I don't think politicians should be serving on the boards of football clubs though. What's that saying about sport and politics again?

So every MP with a second job should be sacked?

Admittedly he is only worked 15 days...he could claim he did that in his holidays, weekends etc...so no biggy there!

But it is interesting about the MPs second jobs.

The reason the Police aren’t meant to be moonlighting is to prevent them from being in the awkward position of getting involved with a company they might have to prosecute within their capacity as a police officer. So what difference is there between that and an MP who might be asked to use their role as an MP to further the position of the business they are working for?

In the current system if we ban MPs from having second jobs then the only people who would go into politics would be independently wealthy people or those who think that earning £60,000 is a fortune.

Personally I'd ban second jobs but then also increase an MPs salary to £200k. We should cut the number of MPs down to circa 400 to help pay for some of this.

I'm actually in agreement with your second line, however, let's not forget that the £60k salary is generously topped up by all of their generous expenses - and let's not forget the amazing pension after sitting through 2 governments.

Would someone care to detail what their real salary is like when taking in to consideration their living allowances and expenses?

Yes,

If he wants to be an MP fine, If he wants to do something else fine, but not both, how can he be fully committed to both, obviously the other job or jobs may just be his name on a letterhead but I think it shows a lack of commitement, would he have these other jobs if he wasn't an MP and ex minister?

I don't have a problem with MPs having outside interests.

However I would like to see those standing foe parliament having to publish their 'interests' with any of their election flyers leaflets etc that gets posted through constituents doors.
Additionally MPs seeking re-election should also include their voting records.
