If anyone wants a laugh check out Tim Yeo.

Look at his job in Parliament and then a quick look at his "other" jobs.

Indeed.

No wonder he's one of the most fervent eco mentalists in Government. wink

I don't have a problem with MPs having outside interests.

However I would like to see those standing foe parliament having to publish their 'interests' with any of their election flyers leaflets etc that gets posted through constituents doors.
Additionally MPs seeking re-election should also include their voting records.

This is a sensible idea. Any media that mentions the individual must carry the up to date 'risk warning' in a minimum font size and colour.

At the same time, don't prevent public servants from second incomes just set it so that the any second income is offset against their primary role income, so that it is effectively a 'draw down'.

So, if you are paid £60k in your primary roll then the first £60k of income from your secondry stream is netted off. Easy enough to do with a change of tax code.

Either he's an MP full Time, which we pay him for, or he isn't and should be sacked.
So every MP with a second job should be sacked?
Yes,

If he wants to be an MP fine, If he wants to do something else fine, but not both, how can he be fully committed to both, obviously the other job or jobs may just be his name on a letterhead but I think it shows a lack of commitement, would he have these other jobs if he wasn't an MP and ex minister?
All members of the Government have a second job in addition to their work as an MP. So should they all be sacked?

In the current system if we ban MPs from having second jobs then the only people who would go into politics would be independently wealthy people or those who think that earning £60,000 is a fortune.

Personally I'd ban second jobs but then also increase an MPs salary to £200k. We should cut the number of MPs down to circa 400 to help pay for some of this.
I'm actually in agreement with your second line, however, let's not forget that the £60k salary is generously topped up by all of their generous expenses - and let's not forget the amazing pension after sitting through 2 governments.

Would someone care to detail what their real salary is like when taking in to consideration their living allowances and expenses?
no need for living allowances if they were to use the now redundant Olympic Village as their London residence !
and when their turn in office is over, they pass it onto the next lucky contestant

David Milliband isn't a Blairite and is a socialist:
Milliband worked for Blair, was his 2 i/c in certain aspects. As regards policy, he was the one who showed Blair how to appeal to the middle ground. The manifstor for the 97 election was Milliband and no a socialist principle pinciple in sight.

He's moved away from being a Blairite not because of a change of heart but because it is a dead end, populated by those going nowhere.
