I'm starting to get rather angry about these nobodies spending my hard earned tax in this cavalier manner.

Katherine Kerswell, the council's former managing director, received a £420,000 pay-off after less than 20 months in the job, on top of her £139,806 salary and £29,359 pension contribution. She is now the Cabinet Office's director of civil service reform on a salary of £142,000 a year.
Lynda McMullan, the former corporate director, was paid £172,000 in compensation and has since joined the National Audit Office as assistant auditor general. Mrs McMullan, who now earns £145,000, said after her appointment that "value for money" was one of the most important issues facing the public sector.
The accounts also disclose that Peter Gilroy, the chief executive before Mrs Kerswell was appointed, was given £407,851 in compensation. He has since formed his own consultancy.

Agreed in principle. In the large Government Department that I work for, our overtime rate has been ceased altogether! Angry, you bet!!
Herein lies the problem with expecting the PS executives to manage themselves - they don't and any 'cuts' are passed to front line staff rather than the uber-seat-shiners.Puggit said:

It also begs the question, how do I get onto this gravy train? Are these post advertised externally or do you have to work your way up?
If you can't beat them, join them!
You need to read the Guardian If you can't beat them, join them!

To see the ads for the jobs which they already have little piggies lined-up for but have to advertise anyway, for the sake of attempting to appear to follow fair procedures.
If that's the case they don't normally advertise in the Guardian. They'd advertise in a paper that nobody reads in order to reduce the chances of somebody decent applying. As a former civil servant and now in the private sector this type of thing pales into insignificance compared to what I see now.
Former chief executive -
Hired a former porn star as an executive (qualifications not required)
Commenced to have an affair with her that involved -
Misuse of the company jet
Expenses 'irregularities'
Hes was biined with a pay off of $13 million.
Now before you say that is not the same, our company has huge government contracts so guess where those costs get passed onto.
