Raises the question as to why a convicted killer was in a "medium security" institution. Hopefully when they catch him they will throw him in a proper prison to prevent another mishap like this.

He married a nurse while he was a patient at high-security Rampton Hospital in 2008.

Jesus! The staff are crazier than the patients.

I just love this country!

Police are hunting 44-year-old Phillip Westwater, who escaped a secure pyschiatric Hospital in Gosforth, at 10am.

He is described as white, 6ft tall, of slim build with brown/grey hair. He undressed before he escaped so there is no description of what he might be wearing. (perhaps he's in his birthday suit?)

This one's also good for laugh:
A Northumbria Police spokesman said:
"Officers are making inquiries into this individual and any RISKS he may or may not pose.

Westwater was detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act. (until he escaped!)

In 1989, he attacked a man with a piece of glass in a pub fight, leaving the drinker paralysed for life.
NB See RISKS above.

The following year he strangled fellow patient Derek Williams at Ashworth Hospital in Liverpool with his dressing gown cord.
NB See RISKS above.

Makes you want to give up doesn't it?

Well, I know they can be a bit of a handful, but I think nurses ARE allowed to marry......

I'm afraid I can't agree with you this time.

You need one of these.

''Phillip Westwater left his clothing in the toilets and so police do not have a description of what he might be wearing''

So basically they are looking for a 6ft tall heavily-tattooed man wearing a roller towel.

That should narrow it down a bit. But bear in mind, he did escape in Newcastle, so....

I'm pretty sure that doctors get in the st if they date patients and they don't have an incentive to help their new partners escape mental hospitals.

Why is it any different for a nurse to date a dangerous patient she is 'looking' after?

Would a male nurse be allowed to marry a female mental patient?

Unless it was a nurse somewhere else I read it as married his nurse(if it wasn't a nurse there how did she meet him?).
Still fking weird though.

Sky News just running ticker tape:

This statement comes from the Police.
'Convicted murderer Phillip Westwater has been found 'safe and well'...

Like I said, I give up!

They couldn't give a .... they only care about the psycho.

Jeez, I still can't get over the police issuing a statement like that.
A 'lost child' or 'the owner of the capsized boat' (etc) is found 'safe and well' stands up.

But a 'convicted killer' is found 'safe and well'?!

That must be contender for the most crass PC (literally!) statement of the year.
I doubt it can or will be beaten.

Then again... rolleyes

A mentally ill person... Is found safe and well.

A person suffering an illness is found safe and well.

Nobody got hurt.

And yet you complain?

Google 'compassion' and rethink your reply. And if you are without compassion, you may well suffer the same affliction this man suffers. And you'll ask for what you seemingly lack come the day the coppers come searching for your bare arse!

People come here to complain don't they?
I think they'd be lost of there wasn't some reason or other for their piss to be boiling biggrin
