Tony Blair is a national hero

I voted for Blair, or rather labour, in 97. Just the once for me. But the choice was clear cut. The tories were a shambles. In-fighting has always been a factor with them but after the demise of the sainted Thatcher there was a free for all, like last day at school my wife reckoned.
I've got no party politics. I vote for what's best for me and mine. I just didn't fancy all that squabbling. I still think it was the right decision. However, I didn't expect it to go on for so long.
I think that might well be Blair's hook. He was nothing if not stable and if, as is very possible, there is internal grief in the tories after the type of brexit means brexit route, then he's got a good card to play - I was stability itself.
Nothing the public likes more than voting out those MPs too self important to put the good of the country first.
All very good points except the last line IMO - my impression of blair is the definition of superior, self serving, self important somewhat sociopath whose been skulking in the shadows for some time waiting for an opportunity like this to ride in like a hero to save britain from itself, save europe and take his rightfull place as king of eu while the world cheers.I've got no party politics. I vote for what's best for me and mine. I just didn't fancy all that squabbling. I still think it was the right decision. However, I didn't expect it to go on for so long.

And the sad thing is he'd still con a lot of people - that generic lefty labour mp bint on "have i got news for you" the other night, you could see the conflict in her face as both brain cells struggled to form an apology that wouldnt get he laughed out the tv for one of her own. But I think outside of the rank-closing left mindset he's still too unpopular.

The word "Toxic" and Blair are not strange bedfellows no floating voter will go near him.
That remains to be seen. Much stranger things have happened. We don't have to look far back in time to see dishonest MPs making comebacks. (Not that I'm suggesting Blair is dishonest of course, merely pointing out an 'in extremis' example.) Some people even want some patently dishonest MPs to lead parties. Now that to me is strange.
I don't think you need to be afraid of suggesting he's dishonest. I don't think there's any doubt on that score......
In the real world, people realise a good many such are never actually convicted, for numerous reasons.

I agree with large chunks of this and would add there was genuine optimism after a shambolic end to the tory government of the time. I've got no party politics. I vote for what's best for me and mine. I just didn't fancy all that squabbling. I still think it was the right decision. However, I didn't expect it to go on for so long.

Whilst never an outright Blair fan boy (thought he was an overly smug, career politician) he was PM during some prosperous times in the late 90's and early 00's.
the act of going into Iraq with the American (and others) really changed perceptions of him 180 degrees in many peoples eyes. Smug politician to war criminal IMO. His business activities post PM duties have raised a few eyebrows also.
the fact that he is considering returning to politics is incredible and a sad reflection on the piss poor politicians currently running the UK.

Can't we get his pope pal to give him a sainthood and send him off to defeat extreme Islam?
That would work well for everybody.
was he not a peace envoy to the middle east? did he make a difference? That would work well for everybody.
I'm talking fighting, not talking...I bet he's a wizz with an axe in one hand and a Nerf gun in the other. Absolute carnage...
