IVF for lesbians rather than cancer drugs, it's all gone mad
Discussion
I heard this on the radio this morning, no cancer drugs, but lesbians who effectively don't conceve by choice get IVF at £7000 a pop, it's nuts!

It's not in that link, however the radio item i heard said they are cutting back on the availability of drugs for Cancer, multiple sclerosis and Parkinsons desease, surely our money would be better spent on supplying thse drugs and the couples that are desperate for children should adopt. This kind of thing makes me rather upset. Not becuase im against homosexual couples or anything, but becuase it shows a sort of unequal pandering, whats wrong with gay couples adopting? I was adopted by a man and wife from just about birth and apart from the willingness to get involved in some PH hysteria i don't think i turned out that badly, compared to my birth parents who arent exactly the most wonderful of people.
Im afraid that any group that wants to be treated normally but still requires a parade is far beyond me. I worked in a nightclub that did a gay night, i met a lot of women and men who you couldn't tell and who detested such acts of attention seeking, yet i met plenty who thrived on the attention.

Plenty of PHers (and most likely Mail readers, too) think there's much wrong with gay parents adopting.Im afraid that any group that wants to be treated normally but still requires a parade is far beyond me. There's always a debate to be had about rationing limited NHS spending. In an either or discussion there are penty of very expensive near end of life drug programmes with surprisingly small "success" rates and increases in lengths of life I'd think long and hard about. I'm not overly sure I'm enraged conceptually by IVF for lesbians any more than I am IVF for heterosexual couples who've failed to conceive naturally.

Always good when I read a thread title and can guess which 'newspaper' site the OP will be linking to...I wonder how many such women will actually go through IVF rather than the "turkey baster" route? I suspect in practice it would be very, very few.
My wife went through IVF a few times and I know several other women who have. It isn't an easy option - it involves quite a lot of unpleasant drugs, a lot of discomfort (one self-administered injection in particular involved an unfeasibly long needle) and a genuine risk to health and life.

But is it only if the woman needs ivf for medical reasons.
If your life style choice is a relationship with same sex person. Means that your choice for having children is gone. And if you want children its a sacrifice to conceive the natural way. And the parties involved are all ok with that. Surely that's the right way.
We all have to do things we don't want to do some time in our life's.
If you need ivf for medical reasons then no problem.
I am sure if a man and a women went to the doctors and asked for ivf due to the woman did not want penetrative sex they would be told to clear off.

It's an odd thing to hear in the news of the 4 in 10 kids living in poverty and the growing number seeking adoption, then to hear that we are increasing the already millions of pounds spent trying to get the infertile to have kids.
You,really, really couldn't make it up................

Pretty sure that a lesbian would be told the same thing. You don't need IVF to conceive with donated sperm, I would be amazed if anyone would volunteer to have an expensive, risky and sometimes painful process with risky side effects just to avoid having semen squirted up their clunge, and even more amazed if a doctor would agree to it on either ethical or cost grounds.hollydog said:

If the lesbian requires IVF for medical reasons as above, that would be ok? Just clarifying. If your life style choice is a relationship with same sex person. AFAIA, IVF is pretty much the last resort after other methods have failed, so any couple should be quite well known to the doctor/hospital before they get to this stage, not demanding it from the get go.

From my experience of IVF, one shot of semen up the clunge is far better than having numerous 'internal' examinations, operations and injections....I can't see any women 'avoiding a shot' of semen, as the alternative is far more intrusive, embarrassing and painful.
note: Ignore me I've managed to completely misread your post! erm, yep I agree
