North Korea - how serious should we take them?
Discussion
Things like this fascinate me.
I've spent an awful lot of time reading about the Berlin Wall and all the attempts to escape to the West, and the whole NK/SK thing is very similar.
I can't get my head around the fact that to escape from NK all you have to do is run across a bit of grass, and yet it is so dangerous with other soldiers watching you 24/7.

You have to jump over a ditch too now...

I believe there is generally three NK guards at various points. One looks into NK to ensure no one tries to escape (I guess they assume no one wants to break in!) and the other to watch each other to make sure no one defects...I've spent an awful lot of time reading about the Berlin Wall and all the attempts to escape to the West, and the whole NK/SK thing is very similar.

Just been talking about this border down the pub.
We wondered if both sides had a chat to each other..
"Morning Bob....all okay with the family?"
"Yes mate, doing anything for Xmas?"
"Nah, got the 8-6 shift"
No, that's totally ridiculous. We wondered if both sides had a chat to each other..

They'd be speaking Korean.

It's amazing how a country can get away with this and no one really gives a st because china is basically standing behind them, and America is so indebted it to them, they cower down. its a joke, i mean Iraq was destroyed for a lot less.

They shot someone, who's only crime is escaping from a regime, shot before the world cameras, proven to have health issues bought on by a poor diet, living in constant fear, a tiny sample of a country, and basically the UN puts the price of rice up.They even shot him after crossing the border, which is in contravention to armistice agreement

Whilst I don't condone this, We did not Nuke America in 1945 when they did the same(Eddie Slovik) or nuke America every time it sentences someone to death. In any case, the worst the international community does is sternly worded letters against countries that murder their own citizens.
Are you suggesting we let millions of people die because of this?
