Except Preston is a Roman town, but apart from that - well done
plenty of Roman settlements that without the age of coal and steam would no longer exist.Pick Blackpool, it's a better argument for you. Preston is entirely the wrong town.

For me Cuadrilla have to fully and publicly explain what and how the Preese Hall collapse came about and the current state of the well there and wtf they intend to do if something similar happens, if further legal action to appeal this decision brings that about then the democratic process is intact.
Not fracking related but I see a movement has already begun to oppose potash mining in Yorkshire.

As expected, Cuadrilla are going to appeal Lancashire's decision, way to go LCC, spend money that you haven't got, just for it to go through and you look like the nice guys cos you said no first time round!

Greenpeas very own survey earlier this year showed more people in favour of fracking than against, therefore it WOULD be undemocratic if a few NIMBYs succeeded in stopping it.
And after 1 winter of sitting in a freezing house in the dark because the windmills stalled, fracking would obtain 90% + support.
People need to get real and stop listening to nutters trying to take us back to the dark ages.

BBC reporting a government decision to give councils only 16 weeks to make a decision on fracking applications. If they fail to decide, the decision will be 'taken away from them'.

Was that the result of the fracking back in 2011?Fracking will happen in the north west. It's the govt golden chance to rebuild industry in the area. Currently it's the wealthy retirees and green youth political sentiment bks that is opposing it. Once the jobs and money start up - forget it, every working vote in the area will ensure it stays.

Let's hope so. The area is in desperate need of a boost. This could be perfect.Halb said:

Unfortunately and as you are aware, the others truly believe that they are saving the planet. For them, there is no higher calling.
God save us from do-gooders.
Ha! So they claim, until someone wants to build renewables and then they object to those too:God save us from do-gooders.

Yes, cuadrilla successfully drilled into the shale from preese hall 1 and fracturing started shortly after, then cam the earth quake and the government imposed moratorium in 2011... But in 2013 when the moratorium was lifted the preese hall site was never further explored because the well casing had been damaged, one can only presume by the earth quake in 2011 but the mechanism was never revealed and quadrilla have always insisted the wells integrity was never breached and no environmental or safety standards were ever raised... Which begs the question why mothball the well and move on?
