Hard to see how recycling is good for the environment of those living close to the ones that go up in smoke.
I'm not sure much recycling was going on. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-kent-41400137

"A man who illegally stockpiled a "mountain" of mattresses has been fined £15,000 for failing to clear it."
Torch it, claim on insurance, pay off fine, profit?

Even if they do nothing it's profit as they have to pay get the stuff taken away otherwise
Probably no need to claim on insurance

Just to keep the thread full, I missed posting this one back in June. Scrapyard in ex-Cameron Town.
The entrance to the Scrappy in question (been there for years) is so narrow the fire engines couldn't access it and hosed it down from the road and adjoining housing estate fields. It did make the national news and dailies.

We're now exporting our waste and subsequent fires to Poland who don't see the need to be subtle and keep this whole scam below the radar.

Need to get rid of an oil tanker? Burn it! I think it's actually mis-reported and is an oil tank, according to twitter avon fire brigade. Must be a big tank though if that's the case.

'Protected Incident' Protected from what exactly confused

news said:
"Two fire appliances, fire investigation and police were all in attendance as firefighters battled the flames with hosepipes connected to a nearby water supply."
What else would they connect their hoses to, the gas supply.

Impossible to stop plastic packaging. What would you replace it with that costs the same that does the same job?

But regarding the latter point, yes: https://services.parliament.uk/bills/2017-19/packa...

Pretty sure that the jayplas place in Loughborough went up again not that long ago. Such a racket, surely there have been enough fires now to have learned something about how to store plastic without it spontaneously combusting.
