Putin will wait for the economic collapse of Ukraine to do it's part. Then gobble up parts of the East, which is heavily industrialized and dependent on Russia anyways. Large minority living in the East don't see themselves as another country from Russia anyways.

I welcome your perspective on events, especially if you're on the ground in Ukraine.
Yep. We all gonna die!!!11
biggrin
But again, being here only adds a perspective that the russians are bds and ukrainians are the suffering people. Their (Ukrainian) simple thing is (or rather was) that they, eventually declining russian (power, or else - make of that what you will) would eventually join the EU. And what EU officials now do is saying "look, we hadn't had any agreement on that grounds with you". So they're left alone.
So please sir, if you want to reject 1939 analogy, how about Sudetes? Not all of the Russians support Putin, and not all of the Ukrainians support Maidan. What do we make of it, in terms of history? I suppose nothing

Very good. wink

I wasn't thinking about the government though - in Russia, it seems that the majority of the population are still in favour of rolling tanks onto the lawns of their neighbours. That's not common in the west any more, despite what happens at government level.

Look. I'm here, in the Ukraine, working for US NBC, a Kazakh by passport, nobody by any means. I don't mean you're completely wrong, not even close to that, but here's my poor perspective. Some wise sage said that Russia's appetite for expansion will never end, and I see it right here. What I wanted to say is that no matter who's going to win this , it's better to be prepared for all the others. With all respect, you are definitely wrong about the individual power of Putin - the Russians may not believe in him, but they do believe that Russia has been established as a Third Rome - to divide and conquer, and they do believe that Ukraine is in their hands. Heard anything about propaganda? And one can find it in any random Russian even before it gets to football and women. Something you Brits have felt not that long ago.
Remember, USSR was in much, much worse economical state than now in the beginning of WW2, and what they got from it is another 30 years of prosperity.
What I say is that as long as European politicians remain tolerant (they do not understand russian politics at all), they giving a birth to a new fuhrer.
If this is a genuine post - then it is what I think.

No one in the West understands Putin's view, no one here that hasn't been to Russia understands the Russian view - how many here have been to Russia? 1,2,3,42 of us? Any of you had an exchange with the Russian military police?

I'm pretty sure that no one want's to see another fuhrer, but it has happened once before, and I'm pretty sure 90% of the readers on this site do not understand Russian Politics - but that is why we have the likes of Cameron to help protect us....

From Russian media reports?
