Ooh, I bet the Kremlin are shaking in their Valenki's!
Nope - went past the Vulgari shop in Mall of the Emirates earlier and they're still spending money.Stupid boy.
My main concern with modern warfare and tactics, is that none of the current armies are particularly stylish. I mean, come on.
The Nazis had the good grace to get Hugo Boss to kit them out. Whether being machine gunned in the trenches or turning the gas up to 11, they looked stunning.

(possibly ffl)
The Western countries will let the Crimea go, and maybe the rest of the Ukraine. Putin is an unassailable position, he has roused the nationalistic tendencies of a goodly section of the Russian populace, and left a fair few of them looking back fondly at the USSR.
What the Ukrainians want ( even the pro russians) is of no concern to him. Putin has been let by both the Russians and the West grow into a dictator. Russian thought processes have always thought that they needed a strong man at the helm in order to keep The Rodina safe.
It should be said that Sarah Palin did question, during the election campaign of 2008, whether Obama would do anything when Putin invaded the Ukraine. Everyone thought she was nuts.

I notice Ozzie Osmond has piped up with his usual (incorrect) left wing ramblings.
The western response of refusing to participate in things like G8 preparation is quite interesting. Part of the Russian psyche is the attempt to re-assert the Motherland on the international stage and to be seen as a big player. By refusing to turn up in Sochi, 'we' are damaging the Russian standing.

The west should be careful about pushing Russia towards isolationism. Ot was hardly a successful state of affairs previously and will accelerate and strengthen their relations with China. The western response of refusing to participate in things like G8 preparation...

An issue with Crimea is that over half of the population are ethnic Russians, if you go there Sevastopol in particular is like a piece of Russia. I'm not supporting what Putin is doing but there is always the possibility that given the choice the population would vote in favour of being in Russia and not the Ukraine.
Just for the benefit of those who are busy pretending Britannia Rules The Waves, We Won WW2, 1966 World Cup, Margaret Thatcher lives for ever etc etc, I’ll bring you back to this one from a few days ago,

My bet is,
Any complaints?? - Putin knows he can't have the whole Ukraine
- Putin doesn't want to end up with none of Ukraine
- Putin will make trouble
- Ukraine will be partitioned.

Kerry did say in the 21st century, unlike the 19th, you simply did not invade a country on some dubious pretext.
