R4 this morning confirmed the spend required on Westminster is £3b not the £5b you flagged -- don't let details get in the way eh.

Anyway turns out they are actually looking for outside Lindon venues for the time of the rebuild and also one serious option is to leave the building for good this not incurring any repair costs.
Its 20years though before things need to be done so watch this space.
I was merely reporting on what had been said on R4 previously......if you'd actually READ and COMPREHENDED what I'd written, then you'd have noticed and understood that I'd stated that the figure would be BETWEEN £1BN AND £5BN - not my estimates you understand, but the views of the engineer they were interviewing, he went on to say that until they started the work, that the true cost simply couldn't be ascertained with any degree of accuracy.

Actually created by a fking idiotic Scottish Chancellor and his Scottish prime minister mate.
So they're Scottish when describing anything negative about them - whilst retaining the remarkably Schroedinger-like properties when the usual suspects on here describe them as British when it's anything positive (in the cabal's eyes) to do with them.....ho-hum it is the PH way, I don't know how many times I've said it's irrelevant where they were born - but much more relevant as to which government machine they work for.
So your hero Salmond won't be having anything to do with Westminster then? You're a full of st hypocrite. yes
I don't believe even with 59 seats, that the SNP will be able to form a government - no matter how much of a scary bogeyman he seems to be to the majority of the faithful on here, unless you know of any recent parliamentary changes which would allow such a minority government to form....as you were gents!!!

Seeing as you posted this straight after my post, I'll assume you're talking about me.

Yes, I have a vast amount of contempt for a section of Scottish society. The part that have decided that they have it so good if it weren't for the meddling, oil grabbing s in Westminster. The ones that want to walk away from a shared history spanning centuries, where short term economics didn't come into the equation.

One of your number has claimed that the HoP was funded by 'Scottish Oil'. That deserves complete contempt. It's bks, always has been bks, and yet amazingly, not one of you s has even remotely answered the fking question - if Scotland is the land of milk, honey and money, then you should easily be able to demonstrate that over the history of the union Scotland has been a net contributor.

There's a reason why that question hasn't been answered - because you can't. Not even closely. The very, very best you can do is point to the last 30 years and try to come up with a vaguely believable number.

I've worked in Scotland. Have many Scottish friends. Assisted one of the largest Scottish companies recover from the worst period in it's history. I've holidayed there, and taken my kids there to meet wonderful people and a glorious environment.

But I truly despise you, Strocky, Viperpict and all the other nationalist s who whinge, whine, moan and insult those who have either directly, or via their ancestors, have supported Scotland for centuries. You ignore, evade, prevaricate and mislead. Enough.

Answer the fking question - what possible benefit has the rest of the UK had for the Darian bailout, and everything that has come since? Answer me that, before I even consider having any consideration for your views or feelings. After all, you all bring up 'Scottish Oil' often enough...
OK let's put Darien to bed once and for all. The debt incurred by the Darien project was not incurred by the Nation of Scotland, but by the wealthy backers of the project. It was those backers, not the Scottish State who were re-imbursed from English coffers - therefore it cannot be the state that is held "liable". It is much the same scenario as today, RBS gets into trouble and it's board members do quite nicely out of the arrangement - well apart from Fred losing his stehood, I mean knighthood.....and even then I don't think he's doing too badly financially - although I do think the should have been jailed for his troubles. Iceland really did have the right idea there. hehe

It is typical of people that have been conned to not want to believe they have been conned, and at some point you idiotic yessers will wake up to the fact that Salmpnd was in it for himself and only himself and all those that bought his snake oil dream will realise thy wasted time effort and money on the prick.

Thank you for a direct answer.

However, whilst the Darien scheme failure wasn't directly the fault of the Scottish government, the bailout during the Act of Union was to prop up the failed Scottish Pound, and a grant of £400k (in 1707, that's a bloody enormous amount) to prevent Scotland (the state) from future liabilities...

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darien_scheme (now I admit, it's only something I've learnt about recently. Until the referendum, I had zero interest until the Nat campaign started playing the 'poor us' game, claiming theft of Scottish Oil and Scotland propping up rUK).

Of course, even ignoring Darien, there's 280 odd years of Scottish deficit prior to any oil being extracted.

Ultimately, I just wish that the Nats would recognise the immense strength and benefits both countries have had as part of the most successful union in history, instead of sniping that the HoP had been 'funded by Scottish Oil', along all the other claims of being 'raped and pillaged' by rUK.

I wonder what the reaction would be in Germany a few hundred years down the line if the former East Germany found loads of a rare commodity and wanted independence...

That's the one. Where it's capitalist neighbour is still paying additional tax to support the rebuild of it's ex socialist neighbour...

Just in case many of you don't get the chance to visit Scotland often, the absolute majority of people have long moved on. I honestly don't remember the last time anyone in my company even raised the topic.

I'm on various forums and not a single one of them has an active thread running.

Time to move on. It seems people just want to keep poking the fire to get a reaction.
I wish that was true round here. The stickers are back up (YES version 2.0), they are still holding regular meetings, it is still regularly mentioned in letters in the local paper, the 45ers still have that on their facebook pages and of course the SNP keep dropping hints about another referendum. So I wish it would go away and I regularly wish this thread would be locked, but the truth is for a lot of us it is still going on. It is clear the SNP are trying to get as many seats at Westminster to stir up trouble and try and get another vote, so just because people you know aren't talking about it doesn't mean all this nonsense has gone away.

Not sure you could describe East Germany as a country who sought and obtained its independence and then later re-joined the mother state.

Apart from clowns who have "45" or "Yes 2.0" on their Twitter/Facebook profiles, I haven't seen much activity by the bitter ones. No visible signs in Edinburgh, no sign of campaigns, noone on the streets. It'll all die down soon enough. As will this thread.

By the way, regardless of anyone's views on independence the SNP are a political party so of course they're campaigning to obtain as many seats as possible in the general election. You can't complain about that.

I hope you are correct that the 45 clowns wither and die. I still see the idiots who have their houses and cars plastered in YES stickers. i saw one asshat with in huge letter across the back "don't blame me i voted YES" Seeing the freedom fighter was using a 12 year old people carrier i don't think a YES vote would of helped them.

I will continue to poke nationalists with sticks as they are basically left wing idiots

I have no problem with the SNP campaigning

I have a HUGE problem with them lying.

I also greatly object to them banging on about poverty and lack of powers when they never used the tax powers they had from 1997 and do NOTHING to help poverty.

I also object greatly to the scream of freedom and liberty when they are running around with the ban hammer and using 1984 as a user manual

Same here( Lanark and surrounding areas) I see the odd Yes sticker still on display but nothing much. In my circle of friends(50/50 split) its just not mentioned. I'm sure most of my Yes pals would vote the same if the vote was tomorrow but I'm not seeing any really appetite for another one anytime soon. I'm guessing the upcoming elections will stimulate debate a little. The internet is the only place I see the more extreme/emotional views(on both sides)
