It doesn't seem to take much to get a brainwashed young person to strap a bomb onto their chest and kill some innocent people, in some parts of the world.
This soldier has just given them another reason to and could quite easily be culpable for more deaths committed off the back of his actions.

Taken at Cavalry Bks in Colchester. What a dump!
Even more so now the property developers have got their hands on it.Regarding the OP.
I've never served but have read of similar things happening, many times, by both sides in various wars.
I can sort of understand why he did what he did but I think the thing we have to remember is that his conduct has been judged by his peers and found wanting, these are people who know what they're talking about and who have presumably 'walked the walk' themselves.
There is no ambiguity with this, the guy committed murder.
There was no threat as the enemy was detained.
Whilst I hold no love for the Taliban, its not for the troops to decide what to do with them. He was professionally trained to deal with situations like this, and he chose to disregard his training for no apparent reason.

The other thing I find is that it's invariably the far right organisations which seem to be championing this cause, when people forward stuff, particularly on Facebook, they really need to look more carefully at the organisations whose opinions they're endorsing.
They wouldn't care if they did. A guy on my Facebook account linked to some dubious story, you know, the "this Muslim man made this British Soldier do this, share if you think this is an outrage" kind that are so popular at the moment.
The link was dead, but I did some digging and identified the pictures as belonging to something else entirely. I confronted the guy and even when I proved the story false he still refused to remove it from his page siting that "it doesn't matter if its fake, I don't agree that something like this should happen"
I literally could not be bothered to explain to him how stupid he was..

I remember this story when it was first released and hate it even more now.
Every part of me wants to see him released however there's a niggling inside me that says he should be punished.
yeah someone left the wail on the train this morning so I had a read. It seems the withheld evidence is basically opinion that he was under a lot of stress.....he shot an killed a incapacitated dying man in cold blood. Had him an his team walked a bit slower said man would have been dead when they reached him. Had they given him medical attention he would still have died. Had they sat next to him praying and comforting him he would still have died. However the Marine in question shot him and thus ended his life a little earlier. That's the crime right there.Every part of me wants to see him released however there's a niggling inside me that says he should be punished.
Now what they were heard saying on camera etc was all fine far as I can see, frankly if I had seen friends killed an butchered I would not be too happy to see my next AK weilding snackbar. But to execute him is going that step to far.
Now finally if there was no tape and no public knowledge I will go out on a limb an say I could care less about this, but when we do know and its public we have to act accordingly.
As a nation we are not above bending the rules and acts of violence but when we are caught at least we have to then abide by said rules.
An I am not sayings its ok if no one finds out more that I am sure it goes on and we dont know but when we do we have to act

Read the transcript and see if you still think he should be released.Every part of me wants to see him released however there's a niggling inside me that says he should be punished.

They knew he was alive, and we're actively trying to cover what they were doing, even discussing what would look too obvious.

Free him, so he killed a tablibob who was going to be dead in a few minutes anyway (we put our pets down for less) I dont care, thats one less to worry about.
So you'd be perfectly happy if the situation was reversed - with a dying British soldier and a Taliban fighter shot him?98elise said:

However my head says he should be serve his jail time... Instead of just letting the Taliban bloke die, he let his emotions get the better of him. It's blatantly obvious that he knew the bloke was still (probably just) alive so it was, for all intents and purpose, an execution. I agree that making the excuse that he thought he was already dead is farcical and untrue.
I respect the decision however I'm not particularly comfortable with it.
