I want to fly a fighter jet!
So awesome.
The danger, and the glory of death. A young and dashing life gone up in flames. So awesome.
Blonde maidens weeping. To die for one's country. To set forth in a silver lance to joust with the forces of darkness.

A question - why do we continually tolerate the blatant Russian warplane incursions into our airspace? They sure as hell wouldn't let is fly into the edge of their airspace . Why don't we threaten to shoot them down rather than just escorting them?
I would rather we use our beliefs and systems than stoop to theirs to be honest. Maybe it'll teach the Russian gov a few lessons in how to get on with other nations ChemicalChaos said:

because they have much more nuclear power and much bigger area to concede strikesChemicalChaos said:

Do they actually enter UK air space then?ChemicalChaos said:

They never actually enter our Airspace. They test our readyness levels by approcahing our ADIZ, hanging around for a bit and then heading home. ChemicalChaos said:

It at least keeps everyone nicely trained up and familiar with procedures. Also gives the grow bags something to do and release some of their manlyness while busting the sound barrier. AngryPartsBloke said:

That's what I always understood the case to be. As long as they only do that, all we can do is intercept and shadow - as they do to our aircraft.During the height of the Cold War the UK and the US conducted far more clandestine actual incursions of Soviet air space than they did of ours.
Been a lot of activity today - I've been working sort of between Lincoln (NE of me) and East Mids airport (South west of me)
Around 11am two (I assume) Typhoon's flew overhead very high towards EMA, then 20 mins later two came back toward Lincoln.
Not more than 20 mins after that 4 more in formation were heading south west and then 10 mins after those another 4 were heading south west.
Looked and sounded awesome.
