Paedophile doctor caught kiddie fiddling

Not got official figures to hand, but there must be a smattering of kiddie fiddlers up and down the country, convicted or otherwise.
I find this case particularly abhorrent, as doctors are key and influential members of society
If he's found guilty, will he likely face a lengthier jail term due to the importance of his role and the trust the community put into those in the health care profession?

You would hope so. The courts and society usually place a heavy emphasis on an abuse of trust, such as a care giver, teacher etc. So (as is the case in many instances) we can hope that the courts do take the abuse of his position and throw the book at him.
Thankfully, the establishment don't have any worries about racism or sexism with this case, so I would expect a lengthy sentence.
This is made even more sickening because the unfortunate children were already stricken with cancer. They already had lives much sadder and harder than healthy children. This man is horribly depraved, someone who inflicted pain instead of providing cure. He deserves the longest possible sentence.
I don't know what the sentencing options are here, as he admitted the charges, so that, I believe, entitles him to an automatic sentence reduction. However, I will be extremely surprised if the judge sentences him to anything less than the maximum he is allowed to. I recall in one of the recent historic abuse cases - possibly the Max clifford trial - the sentence was that he serve each term consecutively rather than concurrently. I don't know if that would be an option here, but I hope it is.
He will never work as a doctor again and he will surely be placed on the sex offenders register for life, so he will never be allowed to work with children in any capacity. He is about the lowest of the low - a doctor, using a position of trust to prey upon and abuse seriously ill children in his care. Does it get any worse than that?
CEOP need to get their act together. They were alerted to this man's activities and it took them 18 months to do anything about it.

So the Canadians informed CEOP that he'd bought a DVD of kiddie porn?
A few weeks ago the authorities admitted that they couldn't deal with 50,000 leads involving the online purchase of child porn due to the quantity and difficulty in attaching the credit card details to the person that bought the child porn.
Three different British police forces were told about the sexual preferences of the now jailed former frontman of the Lost Prophets before his stash of kiddie porn was discovered during a drugs raid.
The authorities knew about the killers of Drummer Lee Rigby.
The authorities knew about the 7 July 2005 bombers, but dismissed them as jihadi tourists and smalltime fraudsters.
So what are the authorities going to do with more data on more people via the Snooper's Charter when they can't deal with the information they have already?
Anecdotally, this Doctor shows that those that obtain child porn are likely to sexually fiddle with kids themselves?

Obtaining child pornography and abusing children are both activities participated in by people who are sexually attracted to children - not sure it tells you how big the overlap is.A less serious case, but it is still outrageous that my profession's regulator, the BSB, allowed Michael Shrimpton to continue in practice for several months after he was convicted of possessing child porn.

There is one of the problems. Plenty of information but insufficient people to assess it. Another interference in our freedoms with little likely benefit. So depressing. Paedophile left and right. Paedophile doctors, careworkers, priests.
The destructive effect its having on the whole of society. Can't take cameras to school functions, now chaperones pretty much have to be in attendance for every consultation. Societies trust is understandably pretty much gone.
Its just a head in hands daily mail moment.
