One? What about 2?
Or 3 even?
Maybe 4 kiddies if it stops 40 people being killed.
Where do you stop? Whats your own personal number above which it becomes morally repugnent but below which it's acceptable? Do we possess armaments capable of calculating the ratio in-flight so-to-speak?
169 and counting from 2004 to 2011 apparently.
Anyway, this is going circular now so I'll bow out of this particular point.
This, at least in my opinion, is exactly it. There is no easy answer and ultimately you only end up questioning your own morality. It goes for all of these "what would you do" arguments when it comes to warfare and frankly it's why conflict is so horrible on any level.Or 3 even?

For us sat here, it's relatively easy to sideline these arguments and get on with life, being occasionally horrified by the headlines. But to have the question thrust upon you by the death of a loved one I would imagine is something entirely different. Do you turn the other cheek or let it consume you to the point you're willing to take your own life to achieve some sort of closure?

Which entirely ignores that US drone strikes never intended to kill children, but yesterday's attacks (as with all attacks carried out by Islamic terrorists) most certainly did mean to murder as many children as possible.
With respect, neither the children nor their parents will feel better because they were not "directly targeted". They are just as dead.2013BRM said:

The underlying worrying thing about this is the extent to which the Taliban enjoy support in Pakistan. This won't change a thing.
if it doesn't then the country truly is screwedWithout nukes, it would be irrelevant.
I'm not sure how to react to this news. However my reaction to my Indian and Pakistani FRIENDS visible outpourings of grief is to immediately sympathise with them. I have friends of all races and beliefs, and we all condemn what happened. However this doesn't justify torture to gain confessions. Religion should be destroyed and mankind should be at peace.
I think the Pakistani intelligence services should also take some responsibilty for this, the isi has been funding jihadi groups for a very long time but allegedly only the 'good' ones and now it has turned round and bitten them.
Add to this that when the us was putting an end to Al qaeda and the taliban in afghanistan, they were allowed to cross the border and escape into Pakistan with impunity and now 10-15 years later it has become a serious problem.
I am truly horrified by the event and can only hope that something positive is now done about it.

I presume the possibility of an airstrike was mooted when they finally tracked him down, yet they chose to go with SF instead of a Drone strike, a much riskier proposition. One is minded to wonder why that was?jshell said:

Why are you even bothering to engage with the pricks on this site? The mods couldn't care less. If it were the other way round, well you know how it would be Or 3 even?

In response to Kareem, once we place less value in the life of a Pakistani child than we do a British child we have already lost the war.
We differentiate ourselves from the enemy by considering ourselves good and kind and civilised and by thinking of them as animals, animals which don't care about children, this difference we give as the reason to fight them. With this difference gone there is no point in fighting, other than as two animals simply tearing at a piece of meat, no right, no wrong, just for power and for greed.

If revenge is on the menu then the drone is your friend. The death that can be dished out by these things is frightening.

Agreed totally. There is nothing more important than to remember, first and foremost, we are all human beings.I do wish there was more of a widespread realisation of how the religion of peace is so easily twisted - as other religions before it - to dehumanise and demonise others. Sadly, whilst I know Islam does not equal extremism, I don't have any faith in it being compatible with a modern world view for any nation or individual.
