Have the police really got nothing better to do?
The Police have got lots of better things to do. Unfortunately, between all the 'outraged' people ringing up to complain about Twitter, Facebook, mobile phone credit and other crap, they don't actually get time to do it.
Quite.

Honestly, you don't think that during the recent referendum there was enough st being slung by both sides for the courts to be full if, as Det Insp Glyn Roberts, of Police Scotland says:

"Police Scotland will thoroughly investigate any reports of offensive or criminal behaviour online and anyone found to be responsible will be robustly dealt with."

Maybe I'm just cynical and I'll admit to not knowing how much choice the Police have if someone really has nothing better to do than involve them over this, but I suspect that there's some selectiveness in which are looked into and which aren't.
That's an off-the-shelf response the officer wouldn't have even said / written himself.

The only reason they've even had to release a holding statement is because the media will have contacted them.

If you have multiple people contacting you about something then you're going to look into it. The word "investigate" implies some scale, when really someone has probably taken a look at the Tweets and whatever decision will be made has probably already been made.

I don't see any offence and it'll probably have to be recorded as a "hate" incident as anyone who perceives whatever as one results in it being recorded as such - this is a consistent national approach to recording things.

She gains attention and ongoing work as a big mouth. Twitter etc don't really care as they see more trade. Sadly that's the truth of it all. If only fewer people paid any attention to her (and so many other outspoken nitwits) I'm sure we'd be better off.

I think this too. How does that old adage get paraphrased? 'Being talked about is always better than not being talked about at all' - presume this includes hatred and outrage. Hey - her name is still in papers some years after it was originally there for. Mission accomplished, I guess.

I assume therefore that the crime rate in Scotland must be 0% if plod are investigating someone I've never heard of jokes ?
A few moments on Google will show you she's a pretty well known motormouth who is very happy to make a good living on the back of making lots and lots of unintelligent under informed and frequently nasty outbursts. A horrible woman best ignored. Without publicity she is nothing. Sadly there are a great number in this country prepared to encourage her.

But someone was offended, and we can't have that in 2014/2015.

I think the 'police investigating' bit is way over the top but either way she is a vile and loathesome individual.

A fair few people have been jailed for "funny" comments and conduct of late.

I'm sure there'll be an e-petition about this shortly. Or something.

That is a mean thing to say about Dear Nige.

"More than 11,000 people have signed an online petition on the change.org website for Hopkins to be charged over the "racist tweets" regarding Scotland."

Is it just me but I always end up thinking less about the people who use the word racist, and more into wishing they would invest in a dictionary.
Unfortunately poor old plod got lumbered with IPCC reports which talk about "perceptions of discrimination, rather than overt discriminatory or derogatory language" so what somebody perceives is what matters.

silly

Reality may be well away somewhere else going about its business but that doesn't matter. In this case there was some 'language' but what of it - the source isn't worthy of being taken seriously, doing so is part of the problem if not the main part.

It's completely unnecessary for this police self-flagellation to be wasting so much of their own time. Instead of looking up their own arses and writing 50+ page reports about the view (or should that be perception) to placate the emotionally immature, senior police should try and get some judgement via bulk buying in the January sales.

Your right but I don't agree with it. People used to have a sense of humour and an ability to shrug it off if they didn't. To many thin skinned fannies nowadays, far to many.

I still think she is an oxygen thieving waste of rations.

Hmmmm I wonder if it is to late to start one against all the vile filth and anti English crap that spewed out of the mouths of the Independence mafia before they lost the vote. You just know 10,999 of those 11,000 are paid up mafia members.

She's found a niche, exploited it, and is making a living out of it (which is about as far away from her previous career in HR as it gets).

Silly comments designed to cause outrage aside, I found myself siding with Katie during her recent spat with the fat woman who accused her of hate crimes and phoned the police. Whatever your view on her 'persona', I feel sure that Katie Hopkins would always take responsibility for her own actions - as opposed to blaming other people for their misfortune etc.

There will come a point when you won't be able to say anything, at the risk of some limp wrist taking offence.

Did the English pay their subs to be part of the victim industry or were they refused?!

Depending on the answer, perceive this wink as you wish.

It looks mild and harmless enough to me but somebody could be offended by way of perception - who knows, all hell could break loose nuts and there might even be a petition.

She couldn't even get the apparently-offensive term right! She mixed up the rhyming slang with the actual generic term for Scots. Dim and dimmer.
