I think you will find they are saying they might do that. The problem is it would likely be illegal.
All they have to do is to have a conservative thereI could join the conservative party
Turn up at the debates and scream "I love hamsters" whenever asked a question
And not only would i appear to be the most sane there but it would also fulfil the legal requirement
As Cameron is on public record as being in favour of the debates, plus the broadcasters and other parties already conceding ground by adding more parties means that the broadcasters are extremely unlikely to fall foul of the rules.

TV broadcasters now saying there will be three debates with or without Cameron.
that could work out wel for Dave as the government could be sèn to have risen above petty squabbling.Edited by NailedOn on Friday 6th March 19:19
No chance, the lefty press will see to that.

TV debate audience roughly split into two1) Informed electorate- already made up his mind based on the last 5 years or more.
2) The uninformed plebs, susceptible to making their mind up purely on something one of the debaters will say. As per the Clegg bounce last time around.
If Cameron isn't there, then he isn't going to have a chance to get any of the 2nd lot. 22 Million viewers the last time around.

Clegg won the debate last time but it didn't add up to votes.
Exactly. The fact is most people never change how they vote you are talking about a very small % and appealing to them that is all
No way ever could a Tory MP convince a generational labour supporter to even remotely consider voting for them ditto in reverse its only the smallest of %'s. That is all.
Did I enjoy it last time? Well I'd read the manifestos and take an interest in politics so was it entertainment a touch yes did it change my voting or could it have no as I knew the manifestos.
The plebs might think shouting over one and other and talking about 15% interest rates but rejecting discussing 3 day weeks and INF bailing us out in the 70's and then labour getting us so close to replicating in 2010 somehow says a lot about those who vote for them. Those voters like to be bought that's easy to do - the hard thing is making the tough decisions which are not popular but are needed and the correct thing to do for the best interest of the country. Do that and win is hard.
It would be a miracle is Torys won they are the party who had to come in and make lots and lots of hard choices that pisses huge % of people off that means its highly unlikely to stay in power IF they do the n labour are doing something now terribly wrong. Opposition now would be simple - unless of course the public are awake to the fact actually there is only 1 solution and we've a party in power delivering the outcome.

I admire Cameron's stance. fk you media, I'm in charge of the country, not you lot. Good show!
Me too, I want him to actually say that. The thing is Cameron was all for these debates in 2010, now he is backtracking on this when he knows he will get questioned about public services, the NHS, and immigration, that he cannot answer.
It may be inane Television that doesn't carry much weight, but the fact he will not appear, even against a leader as weak as Milliband, makes him look like he is trying to avoid difficult questions.
