That sounds pretty horrific, are the murders likely to be gang related as well ?

I’d have thought that that kind of aggravated burglary would be quite rare ?

Probably not, at least not in the meaning that the older couple had been in a gang and gotten killed because of that. The man had recently sold off some of his inherited land and received a nice big sum of money for it, everything being publicly available in Sweden it's easy enough for criminals to come knocking on the door and wanting an online bank transfer.

It's not unusual for older people to be scammed, often it's just getting the pin codes but sometimes it ends in murder. The society is rapidly becoming cashless, even banks are cashless nowadays, druggies and other scum in need of money then go for soft targets.

Just as we speak now, reports of a big blast in a house in Norrköping, many injured.

That's interesting. I'd never considered the possible unintended consequences of having details of personal finances freely available. I think it's a bad policy anyway just from a privacy point of view.

Fair play to Sweden for not following the herd and the media frenzy.

Some positivity for Sweden for once and I hope they can stay the course so other countries can evaluate different options to combat the virus.

Just come back from a week of working in Gothenburg. They have closed the schools, but little else. Kids look to be treating it as a holiday and can be found in McDonald's in groups. You see a few shop staff in masks/gloves but that's about all I noticed. The car dealers and restraunts are all open.

Complete contrast to the UK, hopefully doesn't spread too fast. Will see what happens.

So it appears that in a few years, or less, Sweden will be a blonde Venezuela. ETA: And that is even if they fare well from the virus; from their impending political situation alone.

The time to properly assess will be a year from now.

If sufficient numbers of us are going to get it anyway, and that is the only way we return to normal, then Sweden will just be ahead of their neighbours.

What will matter is which strategy produces the best balance between the protection of public health and the preservation of the economy.

They haven't closed schools, just equivalent of 6th form, college and Uni, all other schools are open unless they have shut down locally due to infection.

It has to be said also that they spend much more on their health service than we do, so I believe their strategy is more a case of getting it over and done with quicker as they have the capacity to cope with it.

Ah, that would explain why it was only late teenagers in Max burger at 10am on a Tuesday. Best part about going to Sweden that place

Sweden has similarly low hospital beds to population ratio as the UK despite the high tax, also healthcare is not free!

Agree about Max burgers being the best fast food chain offerings around.

They really do not have the capacity... They have less ICU beds per million people than we do...
