Except of course this is Channel 4 so the windmills will be providing for all our energy needs, Natalie Bennett will lead the world to a binding climate agreement, the polar bears will be saved, everyone will be happy with a zero growth economy and all the migrants from the open border policy will be welcomed into our homes almost like returning long lost family.
There was an informal chat over lunch with Natalie Bennett piece on Radio 4 a week or so ago. She came across less whining than usual I thought. Seems her anti-car agenda relates to her mother dying in a car crash. That reminded me of Ari Vatanen's experience as a kid. It's a shame she doesn't use her experience of mother's death in a car crash to help improve driving standards.
Regarding this Channel 4 commission, they also had a play on Radio 4 about political wrangling when a UKIP Minister gets in and closing the border with Northern Ireland as immigrants are coming in through there. I didn't listen, but another piece of drama painting a scenario of what could happen for a UKIP Minister.
The director of this rubbish Chris Atkins, has a twitter account.

Just read those ramblings... unbelievable rubbish. He thinks he's a Spielberg or an Attenborough.
Role on his court appearance. Where on earth do this non-people who think they are someone come from?

The inability of kippers to see this for the piece of light entertainment that it was only underscores their rather paranoid lack of judgement and perspective
Real political parties deal with this sort of satire all the time without whipping themselves into a frenzy and suggesting legal action; it's rather telling that the Kippers can't manage that....

You made this post in another thread... anyhow. Derision of this program has come from people of all political persuasions. Can you point me to something of similar nature about the Conservatives, Labour or Lib Dems?Real political parties deal with this sort of satire all the time without whipping themselves into a frenzy and suggesting legal action; it's rather telling that the Kippers can't manage that....
The problem was it was not presented as light entertainment. If it was (spitting image) then artistic license is ok and expected, if it is not then a reasonably firm grounding in reality is required.

Can we all just make up lies on TV before a GE about any party now?
Well, yes, how else do you think labour will get any votes?Lets imagine they had to make three honest statements rather than tell lies... All they'd have is:
Yep, we fked the economy for everyone and it'll take two more generations before it gets better.
Yep, we fked the country with rampant unchecked open door immigration. (I believe immigration can be good and is on the whole positive but we had too many come too fast and nobody is integrated).
Our only policy is to buy votes from our client state of public sector staff, unionised morons, and the workshy benefits brigade.
Doesn't make for nearly such an appealing campaign as banging on about bankers, tories, tax evasion etc.

it was far from a poorly done mashup broadcast in the run-up to a GE.

Have never voted UKIP and am unlikely to... But this wasn't presented as satire. If it had been, potentially fair enough IF there was an equal programme with a similar angle (one imagines looking for the worst outcomes of a set of decisions) on each of the other parties... The timing of it struck me as particularly odd though. Great for getting comment and chat going (which I suppose is the media's sole purpose for being), not so great in terms of the great unwashed who struggle to tell things like TOWIE from real life.

I suppose we can look forward to 17 year of Labour in Rotherham and 50 years of Conservatives in Child care homes in the coming weeks on C4 - although they wouldn't be a fictional documentary.
