Nimoy was Jewish. I've always thought that he got the idea for that gesture from seeing the 'Cohanim' or high priests who adopt that with both hands during particular prayers.
He did. I heard him say once that he saw that gesture as a kid. He wasn't supposed to look, but being a kid he took a peek anyway.

Great pic of the Star Trek team in 1976 at the shuttle unveiling - note the shuttle name.

Even NASA have heros.

Like many here, I grew up on the original Star Trek series. Sure, it's easy to look back with rose tinted specs but as a youngster, I'm absolutely positive the show made me think differently about everything. And very positvely shaped my adult life.

The definition of real friendship, the beauty of imagination, the pursuit of right over wrong, the value of challenging norms, the importance of doing your best while protecting those you hold dear and understanding the concept of balancing emotion with logic.

Looking back the last point was quite something for an actor to communicate to countless millions, including a 10 year old kid via a TV show. Mr Nimoy was a genius, and an important teacher. I'm forever grateful.

Thank you and RIP.

There are some people you feel will never die. When they do, it's a bit of a shock.

RIP Leonard, LLAP!
