The 2 places on Earth that guarantee consquenceses for being gay, Uganda and Pakistan, with laws made just recently to condem to jail or death for being gay, have the world's highest Google ratings for the said subject for hits on pron channels. ISIS just throw someone who looks a bit gay off a building infront of a baying crowd.

In Uganda, the nutty US evangalists sort of okayed the rape and murder of anyone looking a bit gayish. The Republican voters may back this in the next US elections!!!
That's fked up.
But for some reason it the Pakistan-transgender tax-collectors popped into my head.
I think I learned about them from QI.

So those who are gay in the countries you mentioned watch a lot of porn?? Correlation (if there is any) is not causality.

Perhaps it's my afternoon alxohol that has affected me, but I don't understand what you're trying to say.

Don't worry. The nurses have given him some more pink stickle-brix. Still he's managed to get himself into a face fight.

What happened to your smelly middle finger comment of this morning?

I see an openly gay man is about to become the PM of Ireland. For a society which up until quite recently would be described as extremely conservative it's nice that these things just don't matter anymore.

"Leo Varadkar, gay son of Indian immigrant, to be next Irish PM
The 38-year-old politician will replace outgoing taoiseach Enda Kenny after winning Fine Gael leadership contest"

As I keep saying, Ireland (at least south of the border) is a very different place these days.

I wonder if will he order a cake to celebrate smile

As someone born in Ireland I think it is just superb. The society is evolving into a decent and tolerant place.

When I was a child, Protestants were regarded as rich and entitled, Jews ( who barely existed) as evil, and there was no such thing as homosexuality. The oppressive cloak of the church covered everything.

Yes , there is more to be done, but I think the society is emerging from its past and life will be better for everyone. I hope so.

They are now voting on abortion laws.

“The people of Ireland are voting on Friday in a historic referendum on whether to repeal or retain a constitutional clause protecting the rights of the unborn that has produced one of the most restrictive abortion regimes in the world.”

As they have done before.

Ireland has to have referenda every so often when the Constitution needs to be amended to allow proposed changes in the law. They aren't voting in a law. They are voting in respect of a constitutional change that will facilitate a legal change.

I guess the airlines are hoping that the vote goes in favour of the pro life brigade. They will lose a lot of business if Irish women no longer have to fly over to the UK for their abortions.

Possibly, however the long haulers are having a last minute bonanza as numerous ex-pats are flying home to vote on this. It's even got its own hashtag. #hometovote

For a country that, so far in 2018, has seen an average of 9 children a day shot to death, (that's children who have already been born), I don't know how Americans have got time to worry about unborn children.

If it doesn't go their way, will the Church/Government do an 'EU' and keep having votes until they're happy?

THat's democracy, large issues which are evenly split will come round every generation or so, for important issues which are...complex, it maybe the best way. If the EU is still going in 20 years, all the millenials may vote the UK back in...if it's not doing so well...the UK that is. biggrin

Overseas cash has been flowing in on both sides.

George Soros handed Amnesty International Ireland a sizeable warchest with which to lobby for the referendum which was deemed to be an illegal donation (international donations can only be made by Irish citizens living abroad).

They have repeatedly refused to give the money back.
