Can we hunt him using an Apache?

If he was playing by the rules and paying to control the population in the park rather than have a ranger shoot a lion as they would have done but not get an income from it then why is this suddenly a big thing?
I'm with you on that, after all this was a very old lion. This wasn't some mindless massacre of young or family units. Whilst unsavory, this does bring a decent chunk of income to an impoverished country. This also encourages the locals to monitor and maintain the habit/natural environment of these creatures. It's unsavory, but not exactly the worst form of entertainment humans are good for. Edited by Andehh on Sunday 2nd August 20:55

KTF, I'm one of those who feels strongly about this. Indeed, I am the OP of this thread.
Why does that make me a handwringer or keyboard warrior?

Indeed. The hand wringers are banging on about how the new male will kill the cubs whilst seemingly forgetting that this is what lions do when a new male arrives to get the lionesses back into season. Edited by Andehh on Sunday 2nd August 20:55
Yes, it's not a 'good thing' but, as I said before, he shot the wrong lion. Had he picked one that didn't have a name this wouldn't even have made the news and he would have been back doing whatever dentists do on the Monday morning.
Now he is in hiding, his business destroyed (and the jobs of the staff with it) and the 'internet' is after him because it's all aboard the bandwagon until the next thing that they get outraged about.
The excuse that these people use that 'the money we pay helps to pay for conservation of the species' would ring a little less hollow if they didn't always feel the urge to take a grinning selfie of themselves and their kill.
And the other so-called defence being trotted out here that 'lots of other lions get killed so it's all right' is no more valid than saying that all politicians/Lords/whoever abuse expenses/go off with hookers/snort coke so it's all right. Numbers don't make it right.

You're confusing a lot of things. No one is defending the way this lion was selected or killed. Killing a lion as part of a reserve's conservation programme is obviously completely different from poaching. And the other so-called defence being trotted out here that 'lots of other lions get killed so it's all right' is no more valid than saying that all politicians/Lords/whoever abuse expenses/go off with hookers/snort coke so it's all right. The hunters' motivation doesn't affect the outcome for conservation. I don't care what's going on in the hunter's mind. What someone thinks or feels is their business, it's their actions that matter. So long as they kill animals humanely and as part of a conservation programme, then who cares whether they are living out a Rambo fantasy or not? The same animals are dead either way. The net result of forking out 50k is that a substantial amount of money ends up going to the reserve and into the local economy which in turn generates local support for the reserve. There's no hollow ring to this; it's fact.

If you dislike people enjoying animal death, best avoid the food and drink forum And the other so-called defence being trotted out here that 'lots of other lions get killed so it's all right' is no more valid than saying that all politicians/Lords/whoever abuse expenses/go off with hookers/snort coke so it's all right. The bizarre motivation and sick enjoyment of the trophy hunter is irrelevant to the success of the conservation effort paid for with his cash. Edited by anonymous-user on Monday 3rd August 15:22

Poor bloke. Can't say I approve of hunting lions, but the hysteria surrounding it is mental.
this ^^^^ Can I understand the desire to kill something just for sport? fk no! Distasteful as hell but it is legal and provides an income for conservation, obviously there are disagreements about this depending on who you talk to but I'd have thought that $50k for a lion coming to the end of his breeding years (and so probably going to be killed by a younger lion or even possibly a danger to humans) seems like a 'good deal'.On the subject of trophy hunting though - why don't people get their panties in a twist about fishing marlin, sailfish etc? Aren't fish cuddly enough?
I suspect people with very small dicks feel the need to kill magnificent animals who are just going about doing what they do.
I think the fact this guy spent so much money to do this hasn't helped him either.
So I hope he gets what he deserves and if he has broken any laws he gets punished but I suspect he has zero chance of being extradited.
Whats the usual limit for attention on these things about 10 days or so?.

I beleive the vast majority of catches these days are tagged for study and released. Hoping to go to Guatamala next year for Sailfish. TheJimi said:

Seriously though, reading the hyperbole from her, describing the animals as "amazing" and "beautiful" - yeah, so amazing and beautiful that you felt the need to kill them.
We humans do like to kill things if not each other animals will do. What sport is there is killing an animal with a high powered rifle.(happy?!)

I guess this has been going on for generations now .
