As I understand it (and I've not been following it too closely) the bit of aeroplane is probably but not confirmed as being from MH370 and has been sent to France. The other stuff as I understand it is not from MH370.

"Here we are on the beach where the the bit of plane was found, but it's now in France about 200 miles from BBC HQ, and the other crap on the beach is.........well, just crap".
Quite. hehe
You really couldn't make it up. I've just seen the BBC breakfast news. Bill Turnbull and Louise Minchin in the studio telling us that the investigators in France will have the results today, "but now to Karen Allen in Reunion". So there she is in her best summer gear on the beach with a couple of local oiks "scouring the beach for more debris" picking up the usual plastic and wood flotsam and jetsam found on and beach, and then a discussion with an oceanographer in a trendy marina cafe. 10/10 for my previous post!

Radio 4 have just had their very own corespondent on reunion.

She interviewed a mother and child who were hunting for more. Then the radio station on the island.

But the most important bit was this gem. One interviewee stated that the larger the coast line an island has the bigger the probability of things washing up on it.

Well fk me. Seriously how anybody can defend the BBC spunking this money away for absolutely nothing is beyond me.

Are you saure it wasn't the TV reporter doing the interview. She was inteviewing the mother and child on the Breakfast news this morning.

The debris found has been taken to France to be identified if it is actually from MH370, that is where the story is.
Exactly so send one of the many reporters based in Calais for the summer to see if it was a chunk of the plane. We don't need to see pictures of it in situ on a beach.

Why spend good license fee money on actual film when a pencil drawing of an aeroplane would do? smile
Why misspell the word 'licence'?

Yeah, that was SUCH a riveting tale..

..anyway I may have been wrong to suggest that the BBC people were on a jamboree. After all Reunion does hold the world record for the most rainfall in a 12 hour period...

See, I think they are waiting for the heavens to open, then they have the MMGW angle to report on too....

Could have been. That would have made sense to use only one team of people. I hope it was, no TV where I've been.

Even with one spread across the BBC network it's too much. We learned nothing of value, nothing at all was added.

Edit yes I think it was. Watch @1:40 for the incredible insight of the ' oceanographer' and further info from this genious reporter, bigger islands may stand more chance.

No seriously watch it, not even fit for newsround who would think it was too dumbed down. In fact the whole piece is just nothing.

Imagine if the BBC and the Labour party ceased to exist, just imagine how sparse this forum would be! biglaughtumbleweed

Or wrong in your eyes? Stop being silly Eric watch that piece jump to 1:40 if you like. Nobody has ever said everything they do is wrong

Honestly tell me it was worth while.

IMO, they can, and they do.

However, as they are effectively a public body, should they not be under the close scrutiny of those who pay for the service?

As always in these scenarios, there are some who feel that they can do no wrong, and some who are of the opinion they do nothing right. The vast majority fall somewhere in the huge spectrum in between, often the moderate's voices are quieter than those entrenched positions.

They most certainly are - especially on PH.

If they disappeared overnight PH would get very quiet.

Well, if you're a fan of Wimbledon, Glastonbury, the Proms, Edinburgh Festival, Labour Leadership contests, UN panel on Climate Toss, the Olympics etc you do get pretty good coverage.

It's just the other 99%+ of cultural stuffage that doesn't get a look in.

Carl Davies (former Royal Marine) was murdered on Reunion in 2011 but the Beeb didn't pop over to cover the murder trial. How many Brits were aboard this flight?

It seems the entire nation now wants to exercise editorial control over BBC News - just because they pay the annual licence.

That will be about 20 million editors then. That should work.

Why didn't they just skype somebody on Reunion? And use a google photo of a Boeing?

Yep - what a national broadcaster should do.

Indeed, why bother with new reporters at all. Just phone random people in different parts of the UK or the world and ask them "Hey man, what's happenin'?

They used to have quite a good motoring show. No idea what happened to that. Perhaps there's a thread about it.
