I find it more amusing that the SNP don't want the investment/work/jobs...
Wonder how they would sell that on the doorsteps of their electorate?
That would be the electorate that voted overwhelingly for the SNP who've not been exactly shy about their wish to shut down Faslane.Wonder how they would sell that on the doorsteps of their electorate?
all too easy to play that game, I am sure all the people who directly/indirectly benefit from Faslane all did not vote SNP?

She's short, ugly and Scottish, that not enough reason?
That's pretty offensive, Scuffers. In all volumes of the Scottish independence thread we've read about how Scottish independence and nationalism is all about a hatred of the English. It isn't, by the way. But that's what most posters seem to think.
A comment like yours fuels that sort of talk. Would you have said "she's short, ugly and black", or "she's short, ugly and female", or "she's short, ugly and a lesbian"?
No? Thought not.
As you were.

I think the current Government has clocked the Scottish independence movement for the political equivalent of the spoilt teenager that it is; it will shout and scream about how much it hates it's parents and how they treat it sooooo badly and don't respect it as a grown-up, but they'll still want to borrow a tenner every time they want to go out with their mates and they're still secretly terrified of leaving home

So inferring that Scottish people are unhappy.
lot of them are!consider this, most people that identify themselves as Scottish live outside of Scotland, why do you think that is?
Are you about to lecture me on Scottish emigration? Most people who call themselves Irish live outside Ireland too. That's true of many countries.
So your point is obviously that most Scottish people are unhappy and that's because Scotland is rubbish and that's why so many people have chosen to leave Scotland?
You are a genius.
Come to visit Scotland sometime. See it for yourself. Make your own decisions, Meet the people. We're nice. In fact, tourists and visitors often remark on how friendly and welcoming we are.
But that doesn't fit with your strange view.

Very well put!For people like myself, that voted to stay as part of the UK, it's a ridiculous analogy.

I am sure the majority of normal, non political Scottish people are ashamed at the way they are portrayed by the SNP.
It's about time the SNP realised it's their job to promote Scotland and work to make it a more welcoming place, what they are doing now is 100% the opposite.
For example, what have they done positively to safeguard their electricity supply?
Nothing - in fact just the opposite, by promoting green bull and watching on as Longannet is shut down, cutting off their biggest power station (accounting for some 22% of their total generating capacity).
So burger if the £500m is only to be spent on Faslane or instead not spent at all which would you rather ? Jobs for your boys and economy and an economy for 10 years leading into the new Trident for 70 years or no new jobs?
It is basically that black and white. It is not your money it is our money and we have a bigger voice than you rightly so.

You'll also presumably be unaware of how the SNP tops satisfaction polls and what the SNP have delivered in the Scottish parliament?
However, we're going off-topic. You should raise your concerns in the Scottish independenec thread.

As you know Beefy, I'm not a SNP-lover and I'm not anti-nuclear so I'm pleased to see investment in Faslane. It is basically that black and white. It is not your money it is our money and we have a bigger voice than you rightly so.
However, I do take umbridge with "it is not your money it is our money" - it is British money. End of.
You complain about divisive polictics then make a statement like that?

1.Tram system - what was it ten times overspent You'll also presumably be unaware of how the SNP tops satisfaction polls and what the SNP have delivered in the Scottish parliament?

2. Cutting education spending at colleges
3. Worse than rUK NHS waiting times and satisfaction
4. Not doing anything about bedroom tax yet have tax raising powers
5. Lied many times.
6. Told the Indy ref voters whatever the outcome they would rebuild the communities and consolidate. Instead the very next day they said the VOW was a lie.... Yet oddly Burns night is months into the future and the Smith commission is being delivered.
7. Generally ignorant and arrogant
8.think they speak for Scotland yet even with the MPs not even 50% of the population voted for them so they do not accept the settled will of the people unless of course it's inline with their beliefs.

Okay - on the Scottish independence thread many of the (mainly English) posters are adamant that the root of the desire for Scottish independence is hatred of the English. No matter how many times they've been told and proved it isn't, they still think it is. If I said on that thread "no wonder David Cameron is uhappy given that he is tall with dark hair and he's English" then I'd, quite rightly, be shot down in flames.
For you to suggest that Nicola Sturgeon is not happy because she's "short, ugly and Scottish" is therefore equally offensive.
Is it one rule for some another rule for others?

I had not made the link myself, I was simply offering an explanation for her demeanor.

...and what the SNP have delivered in the Scottish parliament?
- SNHS spending cut compared to a rise in the rUK
- attainment gap between wealthy and poor schoolchildren increasing
- Scottish Futures Trust - posted missing
- 'shovel ready' projects still waiting for that shovel
- minimum alcohol pricing - mired in EU courts because it is illegal (rUK government realised this at an early stage and dropped plans)

not forgetting ramming through the merger of the police forces into one huge fiasco.
This one specifically is at odds with the devolved and SNP logic. Centralise over decentralised where decisions are made locally to solve issues they face. .... Seems like Holyrood is turning into exactly what Westminster is for the UK.
