Trucks to be banned from turning left

I actually had to double check it wasn't April 1st.... but nope, it appears cyclists need saving from themselves by causing utter mayhem for everyone else.
What a truly bloody stupid idea, I'd love to see them try to implement it in any way shape or form in practice.
Here's a radical idea - don't cycle up the inside of vehicles that are clearly indicating left - it's not rocket science and it's worked for me for 23 years...

Someone hasn't read the story properly. I actually had to double check it wasn't April 1st.... but nope, it appears cyclists need saving from themselves by causing utter mayhem for everyone else.

I also thought it was a joke when I saw the title.. bonkers bonkers bonkers.. Creating special routes for trucks also bonkers as invariably it will keep them on the road longer than if they went directly thereby clogging up the roads further and increasing the likelihood that some 2 wheeled terrorist on his silly folding meccano set crashes into him because he is in a hurry to pick up his skinny latte or his skinny jeans are chaffing him...
Daily Mail much?
Construction lorries which have been exempt from certain HGV safety requirements will have to comply with them to be used in London.
HGV traffic for major construction projects will have to use routes agreed with the Greater London Authority planners in order to reduce risk of killing people.
FFS, have you never seen signs indicating routes which construction traffic is allowed or not allowed to take? It's a normal power of planners.

er, DON'T cycle up the inside of any vehicle !!!
I've seen this hundreds of times in London. You can be sat a traffic lights indicating left and 3 bikes all pile up on the inside. What do they expect to happen if I were in a lorry and couldn't see them?er, DON'T cycle up the inside of any vehicle !!!
Bikers have to help themselves, its not all the drivers fault.

But for balance I commonly find myself first at a red light then a car, van, taxi or HGV will pull up next to me then turn left across me even in advance stop zones
Just for the avoidance of doubt, there is no proposal to ban trucks from turning left. It's a fabrication.
There is a suggestion that the construction traffic management plan for large projects will take account of the risk construction traffic poses to cyclists when planning the specified routes. That's it.
Oh, and at the same time there are new rules coming in which mean that construction traffic in London will have to obey the same rules for side guards and mirrors that normal lorries do.
Is there not enough st in the world to get upset about without making stuff up?

Further to my previous (abrubt) post
Cyclists often position themselves at the stop line at junctions, unsurprisingly as they are encouraged to do so, however by doing so they unwittingly put themselves in one of a HGV's many blind spots.
So they are at risk from HGV's going straight on and right.
Wow, that picture highlights the problem well. Cyclists should be far more aware of their own vulnerability but, if an HGV has that many blind spots, it has no place in a built up urban area.Cyclists often position themselves at the stop line at junctions, unsurprisingly as they are encouraged to do so, however by doing so they unwittingly put themselves in one of a HGV's many blind spots.

But how will all the fkwits get their daily outrage if the press only print the actual truth? There is a suggestion that the construction traffic management plan for large projects will take account of the risk construction traffic poses to cyclists when planning the specified routes. That's it.

At least the link wasn't the Daily Mail this time, although it was one of the regular fkwit fogeys sharing their moronic morning reading schedule.

The driver can see the people on his left and some of the people, if not all, in front. He'll only not see them if they are literally under the window.
It's not accurate at all.
Most accidents are driver/rider error not what can or can't be seen from the cab.
One big problem with lorries of all sort is that the driver is strapped to the seatbelt and cant position himself in a way that he can see properly, big mirrors can sort some of it, but then they block the view as well. Cameras and screens is an option, but then you need 2 to 4 screens while you still have to look where you're going, a bit like watching a film while you're driving, so not ideal.
No seatbelt for city driving in lorries, and make cyclists aware of the danger with ads and billboards, that would be a sensible approach.
