If you want sugar free foods, you do really have to be on the ball and do your research.
There's an awful lot of crap out there, some even advertised as health foods!
Indeed, isn't "healthy" yoghurt one of the most notable sinners? There's an awful lot of crap out there, some even advertised as health foods!
I have to admit, since dieting and training, it's quite an eye opener how little food you actually need to consume. Weaning myself off sugar wasn't too bad, too. In fact, I tried an 'Activia' yoghurt the other week, and it was way too sweet for my palette, too sickly.
having said that, I believe that anything is ok, if taken in moderation and you have a half decent active lifestyle - it's when you sit at a desk day in, day out, and then drive home to park your arse on the couch for the evening that even modest over eating becomes a big problem. IMOHO.

Because people like eating it, and if you make your product taste nice, people buy it. People like the taste of fat, salt, sugar. Just the way they're wired.
Yes it is, but it doesn't absolve added refined sugar in savoury products. It mostly stems from the 'low-fat' craze. Fat is a by-product, sugar is the main product, sugar makes helps make people fat, it increases need for food (hormones) and makes a profit. It needs to be restricted.chris watton said:
Perhaps - people need to eat more unprocessed whole foods, and pure water instead of coke/squash, stuff the body understands how to process correctly.
Nation with the healthiest diet in the world? Iceland. Percentage of processed sugary foods in the national diet, around 10% as I recall.Halb said:

*shrug* I'm just stirring. I don't really give a monkey's what they do with processed foods, I hardly ever eat them; prefer to cook from fresh.
So do I. And on the rare occasion I do buy them, I have to add salt to them, because the health Nazis have had it all removed. There is a puritanical school of thought about which requires food to be missionary position, lights off, no more than strictly necessary. Mingled with a bit of "go and see what the poor people are enjoying, and tell them to stop it". I must admit, I do relish the idea of what a sugar tax would do to the price of Manuka honey and balsamic vinegar.

Sugar (if rfined sugar is what you mean) helps, and increases the chance of obesity.
THere is a reason why the USA/UK are geting obese and heading to wards a diabetes epidemic now (forget obesity). The increased of refined sugar in the USA/UK diet is a large part of this.

There are reasons why the yanks (and more Brits) stick added sugar in their foods and drinks. One of them is it makes people consume more.

I looked for sugar consumption for recent times.

Is there any link you can show me?

I do not believe for a second that 'our' sugar consumption has gone down at all. I'd wager it's risen alarmingly, as most do not know the sugar content of most foods, even foods that you wouldn't think had sugar content!
