You have taken my point out of context..

For the poster who thought he was not eating halal meat.. He is. Almost every pub, food chain, catering venue etc etc... the meat is halal
Most of the meat in supermarkets is halal.
I guess it makes it very convenient when the average Muslim wants a quick pie and pint.

It is nigh impossible to avoid halal meat.
Go free range and pork and you'll be saved from the curse.

Do you have a source for that statement? I cannot believe that most supermarkets buy meat that has the added cost of being halal in preparation.

Halal should only be a discussion at outlets catering to Muslims. Next stop?
So you mean any outlet in this country then? Of course not, but that is no more ridiculous an idea than that it should be restricted to places that are aimed at Muslims. Supermarkets have Kosher aisles. They should have Halal aisles too.
I'm sorry - left out the word "mainly" to Muslims for only they want halal.

Many supermarkets have kosher aisles? Or Hindu aisles? Or West Indian aisles?

I suppose the Muslims are the fastest growing minority in the UK.
What a sheltered life you lead! You've never seen a Kosher section in a supermarket?

I suppose in London you have some. Just checked tesco on line - offer 36 products and 161 for halal . Cool

Smiler.

Genuine questions for triggerh4ppy, as you seem like a moderate muslim….

I know the muslim calendar differs somewhat from the Christian one, but how old is the earth according to your beliefs?

After having watched the interesting Attenborough documentary about the discovery of a largest, so far, dinosaur, dated at 1001.6 million years old, what are the muslim thoughts and beliefs regarding evolution?
Keep in mind there are plenty of american (and perhaps UK) christians who don't believe in dinosaurs or evolution so it's not exactly an islam issue.
While the narrative for Christianity creationism vs evolution is quite well known.. It is less known what the Islamic stance is.

Take a for instance... Moses parting of the red sea has been debated and some put it down to a strange tidal stuff..... and others as.... it is just a story.

But as a Muslim, do you genuinely believe Muhammed split the moon in two with his fingers? Or is it just a tale to spread the word?
I missed this, so bhstewie is a muslim? I believe countdown is one as well as I seem to recall a derisory comment he made in the past about the jews and the promised land because of ‘some old book’… oh, the irony! I asked the question to triggerh4ppy as he is, apparently, a moderate muslim… but perhaps he’s too busy stoning gays to answer?

The two questions remain and I would still like to hear a comment from a moderate muslim?

One of Tesco's statements about Halal - https://www.ourtesco.com/2014/05/08/our-position-o... .

Most of the halal they sell is stunned meat - any unstunned is labelled.

The added cost being that a prayer is said?

So if it's stunned it's not halal. Yes there's additional costs as you say. Perhaps they simply have a tape recording running round on a loop while the mechanical slaughtering machine does it's work. Don't sound halall to me laugh

If it is stunned.. it is halal. ( it still gets a little blessing )

But... they only label it halal if it was not stunned.

You are eating halal meat, day in day out ( but not many folks know that )

Is that so? I'm an atheist so not up on the practices of people who have strange beliefs however I understood halal meat meant; not stunned, a muslim chap saying a prayer and slaughtered by cutting the animal's throat etc. Is that not the case?

Yes... As long the the little blessing is said.

But some Muslims prefer that the animal is not stunned as the animal has to be living while it has it's throat cut- and all the blood run out ( Some have the view that being stunned as not living... so does;t count )

It is a horrific practice that has no place in modern society.
You can read up on the views of RSPCA, PETA etc etc.

I agree it's horrific and totally unnecessary in the 21stC but that's religion for you.

As for most meat being halal, I didn't read that in the Tesco's link. Why is it reckoned that most meat is halal? Certainly the turkeys from Copas farm aren't halal. The only man with a white beard there is someone dressed as father Christmas giving out mince pies and mulled wine!

It doesn't frighten me, I just don't think it's good for Britain.

Thirty years ago you'd have been called reactionary if you said the supermarkets would be selling halal. Who knew we'd all be eating it today...
We're not all eating it.
You will have, just not knowingly.
I'm vegan.

A lot of my gay friends enjoy being stoned...... biggrin

Incidentally was my comments about Jews/"promised land" or zionists/"promised land"? I think it would have been the latter...

In answer to your question....about 6 billion years (or whatever the latest scientific study says).

Personally, I'm more worried about how the animals are kept and treated whilst alive. Battery farming is no less "horrific". Or are you as usual more worried about Muslim practices?

Yep, you said your concern was more significant than the one under discussion and took a swipe at the other poster as being anti-muslim. Seems pretty negative to me. hehe

Ban such practices, ban religion. Excellent idea.
