Sad news, only saw his advert for his new album on tele on Friday. He didn't look well but I had no idea he was actually so ill...

BBC radio 2 were very slow with this news this morning. They finally announced it at 7.18, 45 odd minutes after others started talking about it. 10 minutes later they were playing a very highly produced tribute track.

So to me it sounded like they thought it was another hoax, and then when they realised it was true, they had a pre-produced tribute ready to play.

Sara Cox said "as DJ's we frequently have the honour and privilege of announcing momentous news on Radio 2..... Davis Bowie is dead".... (or very similar words)

No emotion or sadness in her voice.... very weird.
If you look back on this thread, at 6.52 it was believed that it was a hoax.
Getting the facts straight is no bad thing IMHO.

I haven't looked because I don't want to be depressed and angered by the possibility, but I suspect that the SNP Cybernats will be figuratively dancing on his grave following his heartfelt public comment at the Brits just before the Scottish indyref.

A man who will be greater even in death than an infinite number of bigots in their entire lifetime.

RIP.

I guess we are all being a bit selfish having lost for some of us somebody who was a huge part of our teenage years but he had a wife and son, condolences to them for their loss.

True.
RIP David though have a feeling that rest was never big on your agenda.

There are lots of good musicians and performers but very few true artists. David was one.

Lazarus, with his recent death in mind, is devastating.

true, but it had already been reported on BBC news website well before this.

Such a shame about Hoax news like this, you'd think it would be made an offence to maliciously make these hoax announcements. Sad indication of our world.

That is very powerful, and as you say Derek, the end in particular is devastating. Edited to add - if not a little disturbing.

A true legend and genius. He transcended not only music but other areas of art as well. He was echoed, parodied and imitated not only in music but in lots of areas of life and entertainment. A very sad day indeed frown

I'm welling up just listening to his greatest hits at work.

Amazing to think how much someone, a musician especially, can be a part of your life. Sad thing is you don't fully appreciate it until they're gone..

Brilliant talking heads on Vic Derbyshire show right now.
Bob Dylan, Johny Cash and Bowie, all recognised as legends who kept relevant and creative during lengthy careers.

I am only aware of some songs (due to their film connections) but I always enjoyed his acting performances. Labyrinth in particular, and his little stint in Extras, which popped into my mind as I saw Gervais tribute just on the Vic show.

Very sad indeed.

Like many here, I grew up with his early work and have many of his albums on vinyl.

Such great lyrics. More than mere pop music.

He was also Great in Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence. Going to watch again at the next possible opportunity.

A real legend.

RIP.

Bowie has died, and the Daily Mirror website is running with the headline "Will Angie Leave The Big Brother House?"

Ffs! Is this what the world has come to?

Exactly my thoughts when I watched it for the first time a few minutes ago. I'm not sure I could watch it again after this morning's news.
