So not a 'firearm', like you said.
If a member of the public were found to be carrying one they would be prosecuted under the same law with the same penalties, as you well know; try not to be so disingenuous.
I take your point about making as distinction between a 'firearm' / 'prohibitive' weapon - yes, they'd be prosecuted under the same Act, but possession of a CED doesn't carry the same penalty as say a handgun, since it isn't subject to a minimum mandatory sentence.

In fact, IIRC, it's the only non-rocket / missile 'firearm / prohibited weapon' that doesn't.

I don't know what police officers carrying firearms has got to do with a Highways England Traffic Officer getting killed by a motor vehicle on duty!

It has nothing to do with it , of course, but PH being PH we got a random anti-police rant.

Tasers are 'section 5 firearms' - do they not teach you these basic facts at cop school?
If you want to water-down the every day meaning of 'firearm' to the S.57 definition, then every police officer carries a 'firearm' because they have CS / Pava and you didn't need to specify 'Taser' in the first place.

Practically, a distinction is made between non-lethal S5 prohibitive weapons and lethal barrelled weapons.

No I wouldn't be 'keen to stop' any mans vehicle. I don't feel obliged or entitled to stick my nose in other peoples business - and if I did, I wouldn't be surprised if I got permanently dealt with.
Where did I write stop 'any mans (sic) vehicle'?

I think he got a bit confused.

Exactly, I posted a link to the local news service covering this, and that's disappeared.

I'd posted a link for RH which covers inquest results from incidents where people have died following a taser deployment (shock horror taser not the cause of death in any of them)

Why has it been deleted?

If I dare repeat what I wrote earlier in response...

He's treading a fine margin if he was willing to plead to death by careless but not death by dangerous.

The stuff about the text conversation doesn't make for pleasant reading. But apparently it was like driving on ice, so probably nothing to do with the texting on his phone.

Sounds like a prize ahole from the limited information available.

If he'd been paying attention to the signs and signals, driving to the conditions and not on his phone, he may have had correct control of his vehicle.

It might be that an ultra cautious moderator deleted posts about the trial (although nothing that could be contempt had been posted). Or a moderator concerned about good taste got rid of some of 220isplenty's absurd rants, which had no place on a thread about a man killed and another paralysed while doing public duties.

They have this law in Florida, you have to move over to the middle (or left) lane on a dual carriageway, or slow down to 20mph below the limit if you can't move over when there's an emergency services vehicle at the side of the road.

I used to be a moderator on a roadside assistance forum. The recovery industry has been pushing for a "slow down, move over" rule for years.

Yep, also majoring on the poor conditions that day. Then there's the evidence of his speeding on journey down. so you didn't think it was bad enough to moderate your speed at all? Or maybe you did moderate your speed?! We've all encountered people with such an attitude. I see a few every journey who avoid being in this situation by blind luck

Wouldn't have a problem with it, tend to do it anyway; 'course it would be another rule that couldn't be enforced since there are no RT police any more.

I've noticed that a lot of drivers in the n/s lane will pull out when there a recovery vehicle on the hard shoulder. I've taken to doing so myself now.

Not sure if it’s a rule in Europe but it’s something I picked up when I started driving to the ring years ago, I’d seen people doing it and thought it a good idea.

I started after a driving holiday in america where it is law in a lot of states, makes sense. Gets some peoples back up though.
The americans have a few good ideas when it comes to driving, i wish the uk wasn't so backwards about a lot of things.
