Is there a figure for the cost of treating health tourists in the NHS?
There was a discussion on R4. The official line was circa £250m. Another view was up to £2bn. Paddy_N_Murphy said:

I'm not clear what you mean by "butis undeliverable". Reading between the lines I would venture that we're heading for a reckoning, and what Self is suggesting is the better way to work through it.
Self fancies some kind of Utopia. oooooorrrrr he just likes sounding controversial ? Pick one

I am sure, for example, he has not a jot of tax efficiency in his 'Limited company' of Self.
Why would an idividual run as a limited company in journalism ?
Aaaaaand just like that , and credibility (for me at least) is sacrificed.
Don't they all do that? Naga Munchetty ltd?Why would an idividual run as a limited company in journalism ?

He clearly has no idea of which sector of taxpayer already pays the rump of income tax receipts and seems to not understand that attracting more businesses to teh UK with a lower rate of CT would generate more revenue.
He's not just a bore, but a bore without much of a clue about how economies work.
I wonder how many of you have read Self's writing. He comes across as awkward onscreen - no doubt due to the mentioned serious problems with illicit substances. On the page he's quite convincing and once you get to grips with the brain, performances like tonight's kind of fit and one makes allowances because he's brilliant.
I'm sorry, I don't know anything about his tax payments.
He's in no way the gift-wrapped answer to the world's problems, but he is asking the right questions. His voice is sorely needed on a QT panel like tonight's.

He said we didn't want burger flipping jobs in the UK as a result of the comment about McDonald's moving their tax office here. How can someone with that thought process provide any sensible input to discussions on the economy? He's an idiot pretending to be clever to people who cannot think for themselves.

Anybody can say "let's raise taxes to pay for the NHS/welfare" because "it would be better" - without any analysis or thought of outcomes, how to achieve the actual improvement (and not just achieve the virtue signal).I'm sorry, I don't know anything about his tax payments.
