I like Caroline Lucas's theory that paying the public sector more would generate more tax and therefore more income and therefore boost the economy.

Labour man clearly feels threated by JRM given his immediate personal dig with his opening words when JRM had done nothing but present a clear personal view.

Bump. Starting now. There was a J R-M thing on jeremy vine earlier, seems as though there's quite a momentum to move him up the political ladder. I actually like him a lot. Although Sixus is a peculiar name to give a sprog. Suspect the next will be Septimus.
"Raid the foreign aid budget", he talks a lot of sense!
He'd toss HR2 on the scrap heap as well - good.

Well that blew Labours idea to offer the self employed paternity leave out of the water.

Do they not engage brain before operating mouth?

She also doesn't realise that if businesses pay only 17% corporation tax, their cash pool goes up and they can pay workers more - who will pay 20% standard rate and also 12% employers and employees NIC.

Interesting point. The current deficit is the same as the amount of interest we pay on the national debt. But what people don't realise is the national debt, those government gilts, are in hot demand by banks to have low risk gilts on their books as opposed to AAA rated bonds that are sub prime.

As for foreign aid, yes reduce it but we are duty bound by treaty to assign a certain proportion of our GDP as foreign aid. Personally, use foreign aid to grease palms and increase UK trade through bungs.

Giving Africa billions hasn't worked so far. But giving them trade opportunities would in the longer term be of greater benefit.
