I did wonder if anyone else would think it a bit of an odd thing to say................sounded perhaps a bit Di Abbottish if I am honest.
It's more than odd IMO.

The odd thing is that someone can say something like this without being picked up on it. I wonder what the response would have been had the Tory said the same in reverse.

Her attitude is why, IMO, no amount of Grenfell enquiries will give the result she wants.
Grenfell has opened up a much bigger can of worms, notably why should social housing be given as a right to people to live in the richest borough in the country, when 99% of the population couldn't afford to live there on their own salary? It almost skews the market forces. Secondly, the 'professional agitators' are intent on proving some huge conspiracy that almost certainly doesn't exist. Is an enquiry based upon a pre aligned prejudice really independent?

Now on to the JRM stuff.

Sadly we're (even more entrenched) in an era in which a large section of society are brainwashed into thinking Labour are good, irrespective of policies etc.

Was chatting to a former teacher, now university professor recently; he was saying school education these days doesn't teach people how to think critically, just become parrots in order to pass tests. That suddenly seems obvious when looking at many people's political comments social media etc.

Talking to my son earlier who is studying a government and politics A level. He has two teachers one is (in his view) balanced. The other is an aggressive woman who will very quickly start on the "it's the Tory party's fault" and "Corbyn is the future". I can't protect him from other views, and of course he should listen and make judgements on what they say. I do find it worrying that after just two weeks of study he formed opinion of this teacher yet will be forced to listen to her Lefty bile for months. Teacher is a young woman who presumably was indoctrinated at her own School and University - so the 'problem' has been around for ages.

That's not just a trait of the Labour Party and their supporters, is it? Tribalism affects every political party and its voter base.

True, but being labour or a lefty (caring, sharing, liberal, love everyone) is cool verses tories who are evil scum.

So it's hard to even have a reasonable debate because as soon as you try you are 'uncaring tory scum' so the right leaning tend to keep quiet about it.

Erm, isn't it a good thing that 'caring, sharing, being liberal and love everyone ' is a cool thing ? Wouldypu prefer the opposite?

Is Will Self actually OK? I'm thinking he's either stoned or had a stroke. He's lost his rational thought process. Too much coke?

Reminds of a couple of our more prominent posters on here scratchchin
Self became far more sanctimonious since finding God.

Any Questions was classic tonight. Very left wing audience, in fact so left wing that Dimbleby had to point out at one point that they were self selecting and were not selected by the BBC to be representative.

Most illuminating was one of the panelists, a successful businessman who trades worldwide, who was for public sector pay rises and for Brexit, both with well reasoned bases.

Other panelists like Vince Cable who have never even tried to negotiate their Sky contract couldn't believe what they were hearing about how negotiations really work, and neither could be booing audience.

Well worth a listen.

AQ was pretty dire; none of the contributors had anything illuminating to say on any of the questions, the business chap revealed staggering ignorance when he trotted out the 'UK will trade under WTO rules' mantra as though it would be anything other than the worst possible outcome, at least in the short/intermediate term.

AQ is usually pretty dire. However, most weeks the "business person" speaks far more sense than the political panelists.
