Best not discussed any further now it will be a criminal trial, hopefully the mods will do the appropriate and close the thread.

This has been discussed non-stop for almost 30 years - not sure closing a thread will make much difference to anything.

It will if it could be shown to prejudice a trial/influence a jury.

The only reason we are where we are with this is that we have been discussing this. So long as the Jury resist the urge to sign up to PH to keep the thread up to date then we'll be perfectly fine. My opinion and thoughts are not prejudicial or influential in any way, neither are yours or anyone elses.

I'm struggling to see how you square this position with the rest of the world around you that is freely discussing and reporting this news story. Are you aware that the court room will have a media gallery?

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) must apply to the High Court to lift an order imposed after he was prosecuted privately in 1999, which must be removed before he can be charged.

How likely, or not is the above to succeed?
Dunno - but this explains some of the issues. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/apr...

Many thanks for that, A cynical person could well come to the conclusion , that the order imposed was pre planned.

Of course it was. That is the whole point of the order.

I'm probably not the only one that is utterly sick of hearing about this and sick of the whining. I trust the people that turned up without tickets are also held to account. That is not to take anything away from the people that got killed.

What also annoys me hugely, is that this happened after Hysel, which was caused by Liverpool supporters fighting and had English clubs removed from European competition. I never hear You'll Never Walk Alone being sung by teary eyed Scousers on the 29th of May each year.

The deaths were an accident, albeit potentially due to incompetence/negligence/arrogance.

Any cover-up would have been deliberate.

IMO there is a big difference between the two, with the latter needing more serious investigation.

At least one person has been charged with PCOJ which presumably refers to the cover up.

You know that 14 Liverpool fans were charges with manslaughter over Heysel, don't you?

There are enormous differences in the case, not least the parties apparently to blame, let alone what is alleged to have happened afterwards to try to deflect blame.

It is right that people will be called to account, IMHO.

probably best to stay away from here whilst scumbag trolls like him try to be a smartarse without knowing any details of the subject they are trolling.
The CPS have warned about discussing this on line I hope that information is heeded.

Just on line discussion?

Has it not been discussed in every type of media known to mankind?

Cps has no chance of getting this stopped, wherever it's talked about.

I hope the investigation is thorough & the trial scrupulously fair & impartial. I further hope that any sentences (if convicted) are exemplary.

Unless the jurors have lived in caves since 1989, I can't see how Duckenfield can expect a fair trial.

It will be interesting to see which crown court this is committed too

I'd have thought that any trial in the north west or Yorkshire is likely to be prejudicial

Perhaps this will end up at the CCC

Further I think jury selection might be a tad challenging

Depending on who you get on the jury it could go either way.

You only need a few Willy Nilly's on there for them to support Duckinfield.
