IIRC there was just one from a rabbi or representative of some Jewish organisation.
Initially there were no complaints - the Police took this upon themselves to arrest and begin the prosecution. They (the legal system) then went and showed the video the director of the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities (SCoJeC) in order to get them to be the "offended party" witness.

It was a show-trial from start to finish.
Ah, thanks - so actually the ones that caused the offence were those that showed it to the offended, except they had the excuse of 'context', which he didn't....except he did...

Lynch mobbery at its finest.

The real tragedy of this case is that the PF office and sheriff seem to have accepted the context and that Dankula was not a Nazi sympathiser, but they have ruled on the basis that the context is irrelevant and that the interpretation by the supposed victim is all that is important. This is a very dangerous road to walk down.
And the tragedy is compounded by the fact that THERE WAS NO VICTIM. Three million people viewed the video. Not one person lodged a complaint.

Jewish people don't need the Scottish cops to patronise them. They know the real danger is not coming from an eccentric Scottish comic but from something a lot more sinister happening within the fabric of the Labour Party.

FWIW I find Frankie Boyle's "humour' infinitely more offensive than that of 'Count Dankula'. But I accept Boyle's right to be an offensive tt without fear of protection.
If you are a 'centrist' i agree with you...but if you lean to the right by any margin well maybe start with your 'side' first mate..... the far rights love of Nazi symbolism is a disgrace to not only Jews but the many men and women who fought and died defeating it....
confused

Is your argument "if you lean right, you'd better address the far right before criticising the Labour party?"

I recall seeing a picture of Harry in the Nazi uniform - were the police not offended then?

I must admit that I am surprised that a two bit comic gets his collar felt let the labour party is free to go on their hate-filled way. frown

No, not really... if the far left have an issue with antisemitism then so does the far right...so if you are a centrist then yes by all means slag them both of....but if you are 'right' then why spend so much time trying to sort out the lefts issue with it when the right has its own mess....mate..

Interesting equivalence. Can't comment on Labour unless you also slag "of" Nazi's. You should be on their PR team. rofl

I did not say that at all, i said its funny how people don't care about the far rights use of Nazi salutes and symbols, but get all het up about the far lefts antisemitism....

Clearly slagging off Labours antisemitism whilst condoning Nazism would be actual LOL... so what is your point?

I'd vote for Labour if I felt they were the best party for me, and for the country. Never voting for the "other team" seems predominantly a Labour supporters thing IME.

Antisemitism is plainly wrong. It's not about politics. I do not include criticism of Israel as antisemitic.

People who post about Labour and antisemitism on here don't care about the far rights use of Nazi salutes and symbols? That's quite a bizarre mental leap you've made there! No one is this stupid. Excellent trolling.

This has clearly been a farce from beginning to end.

As myself and others have said, this has been a show trial from beginning to end with the state (police and prosecutor) pushing the agenda.

While I am thrilled in one respect that he won't face jail time, I am concerned now that there will not be sufficient motivation to mount an appeal to have the conviction quashed.

Thankfully, as Breadvan72 has previously pointed out, this case does not create a legal precedence, but I feel concerned that it may embolden others to have a go at this sort of prosecution again in the near future.

Dankula must now appeal the conviction.
