The stock-market didn't crash - it had it's expected wobble and has trended back up throughout much of the day and has recovered most of what it lost. It's currently sitting around 6180 which is higher than it has been for much of 2016.....so why are pensions ruined?

The pound may have dipped low against the USD (again - an expected wobble and it only stayed there for about 2 hours before bouncing back up a bit). It's been heading down since 2014 so hardly surprising that we would see exchange rates around where we are now. It hit a similar level back in Feb and also in Jan 2009, so it's hardly unprecedented for it to be around the 1.38 level.

GBP against the Euro whilst having a wobble at the start of play - is still ok. Between 2008 and 2013 - GBP bounced around 1.15 and even hit as low as 1.03 during 2008. It's currently sitting at 1.24.

This scare mongering helps no-one. We are where we are and have to make the best of the situation.

Which only compares GBP to USD - not the Euro - I wonder why. scratchchin

Also it says nothing of the trend preceding it. Just look at XE.com and look at the trend over the past couple of years.

As for the stock market - how does what the article say differ from what I said? Here is the FTSE100 chart for the past 5 days. Yes it started off low today (hardly a 'crash') but is now at a higher level than it was at the start of the chart on the 20th June.

Not sure if that was intended as a jibe or not! confused But please think about it. I am 69. I worked bloody hard all my life, I was also very active in the community in the UK and with links to Europe. I had planned for my retirement and restored the TVR as a retirement present. Leaving the EU does have forseeable financial implications for me and for others like me. But do not get me wrong, I put that post in the context of owning a TVR, my concerns are far wider; my partners job prospects, my daughters managerial job is on the line, my nephew's firm have advised staff the company will have to stay in the EU area, a friend has just moved from Scotland and is already having to plan to move back in the expectation of independence well within his working life, and so it goes on. Leave didnt think through the consequences.
If you are 69 presumably your partner is of similar vintage and therefore looking to wind-down too
Why is your daughter's job on the line on the first day?
Your friend from Scotland is hardly going to suffer no?

In my opinion and luckily the majority of the Uk, Remain only thought of commercial reasons reasons to stay in. All of your points elude to this.

Well at least the NHS will be properly funded now.

They'll be getting an extra £350m a week. I know this because I read it on a side of a bus somewhere...

WELL DONE BRITAIN!!! Well done on: Crashing the Stock Market: Ruining Pensions: Crashing the value of our currency to a 31 year low: all overnight! Hopefully the NEW TVR plant in Wales will help restore some of the damage and bring the country back to it's feet!
52% of the country are waking up this morning with a hangover from hell thinking "What the "F" did I do last night?!"
fk me what a drama queen. One thing is for sure, we wont be relying on the likes of you to forge forward with our nation. I suggest you clear off to Germany or France now and apply for citizenship whilst you still can.

Don't tempt me. The attitude you just displayed is shows the worst side of British society and from my experience the leave campaign. It's one step away from making folk wear badges and bundling them into cattle wagons. Nice.

For goodness sake calm down and stop being ridiculous.

We're British, this is only a slight blip and we now have a better chance to look for fresh opportunities without the restrictions of the EU. There's no need to move anywhere else.

I'm genuinely excited about the direction Britain could now go. If Britain yesterday was the best it could be as a result of being in the EU then I really don't think we have anything to worry about. From what I can see so far the only people who may hurt are the rich and big business and as neither have ever done anything but trample over the "little people" like myself I really couldn't care less. Maybe they can share some of the pain that low paid workers like myself have had to endure over the last 8 years or so.
I work for a massive Spanish firm who have made money hand over fist for the last few years yet my wages have increased by 70p an hour in the last 7 years. Living in a working class northern town I have never seen the average person so excited and optimistic about the future. Result!

I'm sorry but you're wrong. Dan is lying. The stock markets haven't, by any measure crashed. Pensions gave t been ruined and the £ is at a 31 year low.

Maybe if some of those who wanted to remain had not continually lied and had explained why their prophecies of doom were inevitable the vote might have gone the other way.

There's been an arrogant, bullying gone from the remain side all along from Juncker down. If only they'd listened to the voters before it was too late, eh? But they just don't do they?

Unbelievable!

How the hell did you come to that conclusion?

Please explain your comparison to what s3fella wrote and Jews being transported to concentration camps.

This is one thing i am struggling to get my head around. Why has the leave vote made you and the other people in your working class northern town made you so optimistic sbout the future? (Im being genuine here by the way).

It looks quite possible we could have a tory government with Boris Johnson at the helm and there is a real possibility of the economy taking a downturn for a few years at least. That doesnt sound like a thing to be optimistic about for a working class northern town.

As i say i am genuinely interested as to why this is being hailed as a victory for 'ordinary' working class people.
