He made the gay club shooting a homophobic attack rather than the Islamic terrorist attack that it was.

It was nothing to do with terrorism and the fact it was done in the name of isis/Islam had nothing to do with it. It was a pure homophobic attack.

His left arse cheek has a W his right has KE
Of course it was a homophobic attack. It was an attack on a gay club because the attacker disagreed with people being homosexuals.

You think it was a terrorist attack that just happened to be in one of the few known gay clubs in the area?
For a certain sort of worldview, the perpetrator being a Muslim is much more exciting than the victims being gay.
And nothing to do with the fact Islamic extremists think gay people should not exist?
Hence murdering them.

It is this inability to be able to look at the whole picture that make Jones come across as such a tt.
He thought the important thing to recognise was that it was an attack on gay people. Social conservative sorts think the important thing to recognise is that it was an attack by Muslims - because they hate Muslims even more than they hate gays.
You're as blinkered as him.

No, they hate Islamic extremists who hate the west and the tolerance the west gives people.

He's ultimately saying that Labour stopped talking about the working class but shouldn't scapegoat minorities for the defeat? Can't see the issue although a bit mealy mouthed.

I do find it hard to reconcile his own wokeness and class with writing the book 'Chavs'. Without playing identity politics I'm not sure he should be their (our) ambassador mainly for this ambivalence.

It’s a tough watch when the left start eating their own.

The last name in the list had to be Owen Jones smile

Owen makes a slightly false analogy between the dignified campaign Labour ran in the 80’s to champion Gay rights and an end to the criminalisation of sexual practices, and indeed a more open an EQUAL society.

Something I don’t think many people took issue with, I recall the prevailing view at the time was that the Law, Pensioners and Thatch were all out of step with most people who simply didn’t care what folks got up to on Clapham Common (Ron Davies I am looking at you)

This feels different, the Trans movement has some shrill voices and these tactics of shouting down women, the threats, the labels (Terfs) and the insistence that a Pre op Tran women should be legally equally and able to share all the same spaces with women with child bearing capabilities seems to me to entirely different.

Back then it was about sex and equality, and the right to be gay, took nothing away from any other group. This feels different, the Trans groups are indeed trying to trample women’s rights (in sport for example). Plus the lunatic fringe that insist ‘boys can have periods too’. Is frankly disturbing.

Owen I think is rather at risk of missing the point of equality vs protected rights.

He's been busy attacking the Tories again this week - instead of pulling together to get through this.

Totally unhelpful.

Some people can never look at a catastrophe without seeing a chance to build their utopia from the ashes;

It's an interesting discussion.
Rather a shame you're all so closed-minded, but there you go.

Owen we understand you wanting to come on here, promote a 5 year old film etc. FWIW you, and Peter, were never on my list of priorities to watch for 50 minutes. All you needed was a bloody lift to be locked in and your echo chamber would have been complete

I watched it, think I probably watched it when it was first posted too.

To be fair, I'd forgotten Jones does have a talent. He can make Peter Hitchens seem relatively likeable. Thank God I was working during that.

Are you going to post your entire back catalogue? Short of ad revenue at the moment or something?
