Case in point, one person equates the Ellen picture to some historically racist imagery, not actually saying she thought Ellen was racist but just pointing out that whilst she thought it was funny the parallel imagery that her mind conjured up stopped her from thinking the picture was as funny as her initial assessment, and quite frankly who's comedy hard on deosn't droop slightly at the image of a middle aged black women giving a piggy back to a young white man?

Anyway...

The reaction to the reaction seems far more unnecessary and much more designed to control thought and shut down debate than the original reaction, if you ask me. Why shouldn't people be allowed to share their cognitive dissonance? Are we really all that certain of our opinions?

Those criticising the picture really frustrates me as all it shows is a desire from some people not to accept that the world is a different place compared with 50 years' ago.

Ellen clearly did not post the picture as a racist slur however some people refuse to believe this and instead are contributing to the feeling of division they so decry.

The people that decry that the photo is racist are in fact racist themselves, no two ways about it. There is no way that Ellen is at all racist and he 'colour blindness' even shows in the fact she posted this photo and thought nothing of it other than making a joke about his speed. The racists saw this photo and it was their chance to have a pop at a white person.

I think ever since its become a commerce, things have to be tidied up for the sake of the rest of society who aren't used to such behaviour, so do understand why it's happening. Large corporations or forums representing business can't be seen to support such behaviour so shut offensive behavior down. I don't think it's getting worse I just think the userbase is changing and therefore stricter rules are out in place. Conversely I do miss the days of trolling Take that forums / mumsmet just to watch the fallout. There are pockets of Internet where you can still get away with it. Voat, reddit to a degree. Darknet etc.

Retards have access to the internet now and through the power of social media the bandwagons they can jump on, or the soapboxes they have access to are now huge. People like the Kardashians, Chrissy Teigen etc, who whilst are entitled to an opinion like the rest of us, now wield huge influence amongst the masses. And they are not even the evil ones, you have the very vocal minority groups like feminists and activists that create a meme that can go global.

Edit: It seems that say someone makes a horrible rape joke and people tell them it's horrible the immediate response is for them to scream SJW or similar. Rinse and repeat for pretty much anything.

I think a further problem with communicating online is that we increasingly seem happy to view others according to labels- neocon, sjw, 1%ers, White Night, self loathing liberal, etc, which we just don't do in personal contact.

Agree. It is hard to convey context, etc., over the internet / in forums, etc. Can't beat good old fashioned face-to-face communications, a few beers, some good discussions, a few disagreements, a few laughs, and it generally ends up with everyone parting as friends albeit with different perspectives on some subjects.
