"Racist" art in Nandos.

Despite it being a piece by a prominent black artist from a South African township it's triggered some spongs.

Would a painting of 4 white people in a toaster make the diddums feel better or would they moan about the lack of diversity?

I was going to comment but it's actually pretty depressing when you realise how thick some of our fellow humans are. Why the f*ck would anyone eat in Nandos?

It's pretty offensive they've removed the art.

I'd have thought small card explaining the context probably a good idea though.
yes

Anti-intellectualism seems rife in both the left and right at the moment, it would have been nice if Nando's had showed some spine.

Says that man who on a car forum has replied to one car thread in the last 90 days. That was to tell someone that they should have bought a Skoda estate instead of their Porsche Cayenne.

Yeah, you're not an angry little man are you!? Haha

To be fair a fast food restaurant is not where you go for challenging art.

Assume Nando's across the UK attract the same demographic, I couldn't see how they'd knowingly offend them.

So it's basically people being offended on behalf of other people again, not knowing the full story.

Or does UK Blackness trump African Blackness nowadays?

Agreed - Nanos should have stuck to it's guns once the explanation was made clear.

Stuff needs facing up to, not hiding away or banning - all this petty bks creates white-noise (racist) that swamps the macro issues and they don't get addressed.

Well the two slot electric pop-up toaster has been used to oppress black people for centuries.

(He should have painted soldiers instead as there's a joke in there.)

I believe the Nando's founder has a huge collection of African art. I guess it would have been taken down in part to protect the painting.

Except it's paint on canvas, not a child deliberately being made to appear ill so the parent can garner attention!

Yeah, I know.... I just didn't think the simile worked.
