Yeah completely serious

The guy obviously feels st about what happened but what's locking him up in a box for 18 months (and the huge cost associated) going to improve?
Maybe prison will focus his attention to:-
1) Not drive like a twonk with someone else's kid in someone else's million quid car
2) Make sure his underage passengers wear their seatbelts next time.
3) Not roll a car in a 10mph speed limit again.

Just a thought
Do you really think a suspended sentence wouldn't do that? Or the crash itself?

If he had plead guilty I would have agreed, however, I am sceptical about his claim about the cause of the accident as were the jury. I am sure our friendly legal professional can confirm sentencing options had he plead guilty, but to plead not guilty shows that he doesn't think it was his fault (when I think most of us clearly think it was). Simply by virtue of crashing that car, in that location with a child not wearing a seat belt.

As other have said it also acts as a warning to other who may indulge in a little show boating with other people in "their" car. Maybe he will write a blog about it whilst inside or when he gets out, he stance on what happened will I expect change whilst inside.

Did the insurance pay out on the car in the end? Or will he be sued by the owner and bankrupted as well.

Given that he denied responsibility and tried to blame the car; no.

Maybe, but I think more likely with an actual custodial.

We have a thread on PH, well known, with a similar subject and outcome ie a prison term. Seems to have focussed that PHers mind very much, changed his life in fact, and in a positive way. Let's hope this has a similar effect.
