Have you had your say on the labour party manifesto yet??

http://www.labour.org.uk/index.php/shapeourmanifes...

Its pretty obvious whats going to be in it as the questions focus on a few specific topics and wont let me talk about, say the armed forces, defence, attracting foreign investment through low business tax, rotherham peadophiles, the necessity to have a statesman (or stateswoman) at the helm, a level of competence in doing everyday, mundane tasks, and no affeliation or friendship with terrorist groups...

...but you can still help shape what their referfendum will look like.

Smiler.

I heard a snippet of him during PMQs the other day.

His delivery is getting more like Count Arthur Strong every time I hear it.

Actually, Count Arthur Wrong would be more fitting.

Before the election was called, I got a "tell us what you care about" questionnaire. Odd, as I haven't ever received a Labour party communication, unless it's to do with signing up to the Conservatives last year.

The last box was for a "tell us anything else". Fire Corbyn and become a proper opposition might not have gone down all that well...

So you want me to vote for the party who "championed the private finance initiative, which is now ripping the NHS and other public services apart" ? So that they can completely destroy it once and for all? People seem to have such short memories.

Just for clarification : which of the two parties, Conservative or Labour, do you consider to have been the greater champions of PFI ? People seem to have such short memories.

Only one party abused it to hide debt off balance sheet (to avoid breaking the (twice re-written) golden rule).

PFI was a Tory invention to fund income generating projects, but Labour used it in a totally different (unintended) way.

Is that what you meant?

Pretty much. I wanted to highlight how disingenuous it was to blame just one of the parties for all the faults and impacts of PFI (and PPP).

Just seen John Woodcock on Daily Politics.

Fair play to him for his honesty. I hope it doesn't cost him though...

So, Corbyn's now said £300 million was the figure for 10k more police officers up from Dianne's 30p and a Twix.

Can you really, with all the overheads of recruitment, training, national insurance, pension, buildings, cars and other kit, whatever else I'm not aware of that they cost... add all those police officers at an average £30k a pop? scratchchin

Cost to recruit and train is about 12k
Payroll cost for a new police officer is 30k.
You will then have the management/admin costs of running an additional 10k people.

Jeremy has obviously spent 10 minutes this morning on the internet finding out how much it costs to pay a police officer. It's a pity Diane didn't do the same, but in fairness she didn't know if it was 2, 10000 or 250000

I'm not convinced there's 10K people out there, who are suitable*, who are looking to become Police Officers. General feeling from a serving friend is that the vast majority of new recruits as woefully underprepared for the realties of the job!

If we're just going to flood the street with people in the hope it stops crime, we're really pissing in the wind. rolleyes

*Certainly the 3 people I know of (wouldn't say any are friends) that have joined various forces in the last year or so. None of them, for all their bravado, strike me as being able to deal with extreme situations without falling apart! It's a tough job!

But it seems the recruitment process is more about the applicants "fluffy" abilities and "determination" Rather than the ability to take charge of a scenario...

It's Labour's Thought Police recruitment drive, they can be given lovely brown uniforms too with badges signifying their Socialist Status within the party.

They'll work for a pittance, if given a nice peaked cap as well.

I fully intend to! For a long time now, the problem with Labour has been that they aren't listening to the electorate, they say 'our message isn't getting across' when it's much more a case of the wrong message. They still don't get it, their daft lurch to the left under Corbyn says it all. The country doesn't want or need a far left government, and certainly can't afford one.

Quite possible they haven't really worked out that if you recruit over a 4 year period then by year 4, 3/4 are in service and are being paid more than the cost of a new officer. Which wasn't in their 'correct' figures. So by year 5 you have everyone and the cost is more than £300m per year, excluding the £120m you've spent hiring & training. Which is nice
