......improve the opportunities available to young people. Nothing else matters.
Young people probably have more "opportunities" than any other generation previously.

Universities are pretty much open to all. Setting up a business is a doddle. You can market yourself or you business easily via the internet. You can create stuff and send it around the globe for all to see in an instant. You have pretty much the sum of all human knowledge at your fingertips. You have access to 24/7 instant communication. Traditional barriers to success like class, gender, race, age etc have been massively eroded. International travel is much easier and cheaper.

What some young people seem to lack is the will to capitalise on the opportunities afforded to them.
When he says opportunities, he means free stuff. Paid for by older 'rich' people.

Some quality trolling from the BBC comments section regarding the retirement of cricket commentator Henry Blofeld:

"Good. There is no place in cricket for Old Etonian Oxbridge types. It's fantastic to see that only weeks since Jeremy effectively won the election, these antiquated tory toffs are already being forced out of the BBC. We do not pay our license fee to be lectured by such elitist snobs. Thank goodness the BBC will soon not be able to brainwash people any more."

Superb.

John Bishop should apply for the vacancy.

That Times / Yougov poll is interesting - it appears that some answered the question "who would make the better prime Minister?" whilst simultaneously acknowledging that he would do a worse job of brexit negotiations (question 2). Yes, he's the man of the people we deserve - to steer this ship into the nearest iceberg!

As has been said time and again, Corbyn is a motivator, one to get people to rise up and have a bit of a protest, but his leadership qualities are questionable.

The main thrust of the poll seems to be the jump from May to Unsure.

JC would be as good a leader as Hugo Chavez, perhaps a bit more cuddly.

The scandinavian model of "socialism" seems to work quite well.

You mean collectivism. Which is not socialism.

No I don't. The difference between the two is negligible.

Yes, but there would be a free bar, so he'd still get the votes smile.

The next UK government needs to be progressive,
Can someone explain what "progressive" means? It is bandied about by left-of-centre politicians, who, judging from the context, consider it to be a Good Thing. But I've never heard any of them explain what they actually mean. Or is it a soundbite like motherhood and apple pie?

I see they were all fawning over Johnny Depp as he made jokes about assassinating the President. The same wife beating Depp with his 14 houses, $30,000 a month wine bill and lifestyle that's costing him $2million a month. You'd think they'd want him lined up against the wall first when the revolution comes.

Yep anything shows how generally stupid the "young, liberal & "trendy left" can be it is this exact example....they are just blind to the massive contradictions in their ideology.

File it along with "hard working families" as typical meaningless tripe.

Did you see the emails? You almost expect him to be a PH'er;

I know that i will be starting THE TOURIST, on or about the 15th of february; which will be 20 mil. i will then go, virtually, straight into PIRATCS 4, for 35 mil and then in turn to DARK SHADOWS for another 20 mil. i hope that by the amount that will be coming in from work in the coming year and also from back end proceeds, etc., will put everything straight.

what else can i do??? you want me to sell same art??? i will. you want me to sell something else??? sure… what??? boat is going to be chartered at new years and sony will then charter it for the TOURIST shoot in venice. other than that, i got bikes, cars, property, books, paintings and some semblance of a soul left, where would you like me to start???

i don’t like being in this situation, but there wasn’t a whole lot of choice, as THE RUM DIARY was a sacrifice we knew would be happening and the last proper paycheck was PUBLIC ENEMIES.

i will do my best, joel.
You can imagine the thread title "$75million P.A. salary and still struggling, what sort of life can I expect?"

I think it's meant to mean moving the tax burden onto those most able to afford it.

A good example would be something like taking a currently universal benefit, such as winter fuel allowance, and means-testing it so it only gets paid to those who actually need it. Oh hang on...
