the invisible by-election, utterly bypassed most of the news.

After reading a quote by LD leader, I thought the LDs smashed it, but Labour dropped 20k, torys dropped 5k, and LDs went up by 3. With less than half the turnout of the last general election. Big parties down and lil parties up, typical by. biggrin

Labour lost 75% of it's majority.

Even accepting the low turnout proportionately Labours share of the votes dropped from 68% to 50%.

Hardly an enthusiastic endorsement of JC Labour party is it.

The fact it's been little reported illustrates that the supposed anti Labour bias in the media is nonsense.

Turnout this time was almost the same number as the lead by labour last year, so obviously a lot of that will come from the previous winner. Labour and torys are both in a mess over brexit, and in a strong remain place, the only party who has a strong voice there reversed the trend of the big two. LD, who are hapless at everything apart from brexit.
the lead up was little reported and it's not uncommon, there were a few by-elections that were little reported in the past year, only two garnered recognition thanks to particular local issues. Myself I think I do see an anti-JC bias in the media on occasion, he's an easy whipping boy for editors and the like to get all frothy over. Also in the current climate brexit is hotter than ever, more than half of QT on it and TW was swamped by it as well, sometimes it's hard for anything else to get a look in.

edited for clarity biggrin

If someone has a flounce and there is no one there to witness it, is it still a flounce?

For good reason; he's a beleiver in a genocidal ideology, a sypathiser of murderous regimes and a friend of more than one terror groups. If he were a right winger he'd be classed as a fringe nutter. Only in Labour's pathetic world of student politics is a man, too stupid to actually be a student, celebrated by millions. God help you!

Maybe those idiots who bought tickets only to see everyone else rock up for free will see a parallel with how tax payers feel about their politics. Probably not.

yes it is a wonderfully appropriate analogy. Strangely they don't seem to like handing over their own money.

If you've got £35 for a day out, you're very clearly one of the 'haves'.

You'll vote them in, then find yourself front and centre in McDonnell's cross-hairs, you disgusting sybarite, you.

I was trying to explain this whole ‘it isn’t fair, I want a refund’ thing to the Mrs in the car driving home this evening. I went through the whole debacle and her response was:

“Don’t they see the hypocrisy in their whinging for refunds?’

Nail, meet hammer on head!

It reminds me why we can’t expect anymore ‘In the thick of it’ - simply beyond parody.....
